ACMESkydiver 0 #52 February 7, 2008 Quote Quote I just got off of the phone with my sons' teacher, and she said there was some kind of scare with beef the past few days? They pulled all of the hamburgers out of the schools, too...weird. i'll definitely hit them up maybe next week so they can hopefully restock! I looked that up. It seems that school districts across the state of Washington buy their beef from a meat packing plant in California. The slaughter house there is under investigation so the schools are holding all their beef until that is over. I think the beef you buy in the store is fine. Well if it happens to have a 'Washington' sticker, all the better! ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.

Gene03 0 #56 February 9, 2008 Jaye, when you feel like splurging a little bit, try this recipe. 2/3 cup sliced almonds, toasted 8 squares (1ounce each) semi sweet chocolate 2 packages (8 ounces each) cream cheese, softened 1 cup of sugar (use your judgment, I used 1/3 cup Sucanat and it was okay) 1 envelope unflavored gelatin ¼ cup of cold water 2 cups of whipping cream, whipped Set aside 1 tablespoon almonds for garnish Chop remaining almonds, Sprinkle into a greased 9-inch spring form pan Melt chocolate, stirring until smooth Cool slightly In a mixing bowl. Beat cream cheese and sugar In a small saucepan, sprinkle gelatin over cold water. Let stand for one minute Cook and stir over low heat until gelatin dissolves Beat into cream cheese mixture Add melted chocolate until blended Fold in the whipped cream Pour into the prepared pan Sprinkle with the reserved almonds Cover and refrigerate for at least 3 hours Yield: 10 to 12 servings (more servings if you slice it thinner, It’s really rich) I know you're trying to cut down on sugar usage for your sons. But this is a good reward to a dedicated person like yourself and your family.“The only fool bigger than the person who knows it all is the person who argues with him. ACMESkydiver 0 #58 February 9, 2008 I could even make a dairy-free version of that...they make substitutes for nearly everything in that recipe. Cool, thanks I'll try that. I think the boys would like it, they love chocolate flavored everything. ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. Oh -and bags of potatoes, get a couple of 50 pounders, sliced -oven roasted- that'll feed your army. I just did that! I bought a big ol' bag of potatoes, and I bought some bulk mixed bean mix that has green and red lentils in it and I'm going to crock pot cook those and throw in some cut up sausages, rice, and a little BBQ sauce to season it up really nice. Baked taters, mashed taters, sliced taters...yes there will be nobody hungry around here. -The trick is gonna be cooking for 10 with food that I can't eat! . I'm not eating sugar, preservatives, or processed foods (bleached flour). And I'm not eating potatoes, either. I just need to make sure that I have my fresh veggies and fruits and protein shake right there with me while I'm cooking. ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. ACMESkydiver 0 #64 February 10, 2008 Quote And, John's right about the drinks. Buy a store-brand drink mix (like Crystal Light) and mix that up for everyone. We go through a gallon of Crystal Light per day with just the twins! I found that WalMart has their knock-off brand for a couple bucks instead of $4.95 and it tastes just as good. The only thing that bothers me about the twins drinking gallons of Crystal Light/knock-off is the chemicals...I use sugar-free stuff so they aren't gulping down cups worth of sugar daily in fruit juice...but I wonder where the trade off is with aspartame and equal and all of these chemicals... The boys drink TONS of water, as well! They are very hydrated babies. IDEA: I'm going to try just half of the little powder cup of Crystal Light/knockoff per gallon and see if it's ok. Less chemical, less cost...my mommy used to water down everything (ketchup, milk, Tang, everything ).~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. ACMESkydiver 0 #65 March 4, 2008 Quote 2 lbs browned hamburger meat (drained) 1 diced onion 2 cans Ranch Style beans (I like at least one with jalepenos) 1 can corn (drained) Salt and pepper Let simmer, then add grated cheese to taste. Feeds four, so adjust to quantity. My mom called it Cowboy Stew, but I call it delicious. -Just made this for dinner, thanks for the idea! ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.
