'Big boobs, red hair, and a guaranteed piece of ass the rest of my life.' -I'm pretty sure those were his exact words. :D

I'm surprised we didn't sneak that phrase into the wedding vows somewhere!

Oh and thanks for that website!!

Ya just do what ya gotta do...and they really are very helpful when they're here. I'm sure they'll be back in business in no time -like I said, the whole family is very hard-working, so I don't anticipate any trouble there. B|

Thanky much. :)

2 lbs browned hamburger meat (drained)
1 diced onion
2 cans Ranch Style beans (I like at least one with jalepenos)
1 can corn (drained)
Salt and pepper

Let simmer, then add grated cheese to taste.

Feeds four, so adjust to quantity. My mom called it Cowboy Stew, but I call it delicious.

Tubing, so easy a caveman can do it.

That sounds good...sounds a lot like taco soup, actually -we just add taco seasoning. B|

Oh and AW: mac 'n cheese and weenies or tuna was great when I was poor and surviving in my apartment waiting for my enlistment date. I'll have to try salmon...

Okay, I'm the King of cheap eating. We feed a family of 5-6 people on less than $400 a month, 3 meals a day. First of all, shop the ads and know what things cost. Forget about brand names. Buy the cheapest stuff on the shelf, usually store brands, but do the math. From where you live, drive down to Tukwila and shop at the Tukwila Trading Company. This week they have chuck roast, $1.49 a pound, bone-in hams $.99/pound. Apples are only $.59/pound. Last week they had sirloin steaks for $1.99 and chicken quarters for $.49. We're still eating like kings. Go to Fred Meyer for 15 pound bags of potatoes, $1.99. Costco for bananas, $.33. Buy the staples as cheaply as you can, then do the cooking yourself. Forget about Safeway, Albertsons, and QFC. Those places are way overpriced. Check the grocery ads each Wednesday, then shop accordingly.

Cook a lot of spaghetti and casseroles. Buy ground turkey in the 1 pound chubs and use it in all your dishes. Skip the energy drinks and brand name soft drinks. Forget about $4 lattes. Make drip coffee at home instead. Shop the sales, shop the sales, shop the sales.

Last but not least. Just come over to our house for dinner. Can't get cheaper than that.:)

I can just see what it's going to be like if John and I ever meet in person. We're going to talk about bargain shopping and how much money we've saved at the grocery store. I love this kind of talk!

I'll just reiterate again about shopping the sale flyers. Every Wednesday, the sale flyers are in the paper and I make the menu for the next week based off what meat is on sale. Today, I'm going to Albertson's to get "buy one, get one free" pork tenderloin and chicken is only $1.99/pound. I buy my meat there and then I go to Wal-Mart for the rest of the food. You can't beat the prices at Wal-Mart on stuff like cereal and canned goods.

And, John's right about the drinks. Buy a store-brand drink mix (like Crystal Light) and mix that up for everyone.

because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon

Red beans and rice, use oxtails, smoked sausage, pigtails, or smoked hocks.(whatever is cheapest)mmmm:)
Try making spinach and lentil soup, use a few strips of bacon in it, and frozen spinach(fresh does not work as well)

Pastina and chicken soup with whatever inexpensive vegetables you can find, serve with day old bread made into bruchetta. (us romano over the soup to serve, about 1tblsp each)

Got any farmer friends????

tacos can be cheap and easy, just buy fresh tortillas, you get 3dz per pack for a dollar, any meat that is cheap, just cook it until it falls apart, serve with pintos cooked all day long.

Chili

Pasta with pot roast, cooked until tender, then mixed with basil, garlic, oregano, red pepper flakes, paprika, and finish with a little cream to make it creamy, toss with cheese and the pasta.

Make home made chicken and dumplings, use bisquick and cook an entire chicken until it falls apart, debone/skin, and add veggies.

Biscuits and gravy for breakfast.

Cereals are kind of expensive these days, try using more oatmeal.

Eggs can be cheap, especially if you have a farmer for a friend.

Does your hubby hunt?;)

Always cook rabbit with veggies because although rabbit is tasty and great protein, without the veggies your body will use it's own minerals to process the meat. you can literally starve with having a full belly.

Rabbits are best when browned and then simmered in garlic, olive oil, basil, oregano, tyme, and a bit of red wine to deglaze and make the sauce, cook until it falls off the bone, roast potatoes to serve with it.

Just about any animal can be added to spaghetti sauce, squirrels, rabbit, eggs (hard boiled).

I hope this helps

Iced tea from tea bags is cheap, so is kool aid, and some frozen juices like limeade, lemonade, etc.

Buy coffee from godoys, 20lbs at a time, can be cheaper than the store brands, and much better.

Got a farmer or dairy close by? get milk there.

If the kids fish, that is cheap entertainment, and food for the table.

Beans and Rice! You think we Mexicans eat it because we loved it, No, it is chaep and sticks to your ribs. You can refry them, microwave them or whatever. My Mom use to buy these huge bags of pinto beans and then dump them on the table, me and my siblings would have to pick out all the bad ones.
So i just broke up with this woman who wasn't even my girlfriend!

If you had a Winco you can. I buy the laundry soap and stuff like that at wally world but everything else at Winco. Almost all the items in the store are 1-2 dollars less. Cereal for a normal size box is 1.98 and that is honey nut cheerios. Canned foods are almost always 40 cents or less. I can shop for a month on 40-60 dollars there but that is only for me and a 7yr old.

We have a walk in pantry, so storage is no problem. We know what are good prices on can goods, so when whatever goes on sale, we stock up. We rarely pay full price for anything in a can. :)
And yeah, Winco has some really good prices on just about everything. If I had to chose just one place to shop, it would be either Winco or that Tukwila Trading Company, a local independent. The latter is where we get 70% of our groceries, and almost all our meats. Prime rib for under $3 a pound, anyone?

I just went to WinCo and bought a TON of stuff! :)
Now our relatives are delayed due to weather...[:/]

Ah wells, most everything I bought is non-perishable.

The only thing I didn't find was hamburger meat at a good price. They had some 1/4 pound frozen patties, but they didn't list the fat %. I'm going cheaper, but I still want to get at least 80% lean meat for my babies...

I'll check the Tukwila Trading Co place for that. B|

-and holy shnikeys...I'd never bought a 5 dozen block o' eggs before. :D

The Tukwila Trading Company didn't have much in their add this week. I was disappointed, so don't judge the store by this weeks add. Usually they have rocking deals on everything. I do get all my spices there. They have big bottles of them for only a buck. They have super lean ground beef this week for 1.99 a pound (10 pounds or more) I've seen them have better deals on that but, oh well. They usually have the chubs of ground turkey for a buck too. They have New York steaks for 2.79 if you want a good steak. When you get to the store go to the customer service counter and grab their add. They have coupons in it that you might want. Also you can sign up to get on their mailing list and they'll send you their add in the mail every week. ;)

I just got off of the phone with my sons' teacher, and she said there was some kind of scare with beef the past few days? They pulled all of the hamburgers out of the schools, too...weird.

i'll definitely hit them up maybe next week so they can hopefully restock!

I looked that up. It seems that school districts across the state of Washington buy their beef from a meat packing plant in California. The slaughter house there is under investigation so the schools are holding all their beef until that is over. I think the beef you buy in the store is fine.
