bigway 4 #1 March 4, 2008 I know nothing about computers but am about to buy a new one and am wondering what sort of price i should be asking for this one. It has a Chimei 22 inch widescreen, E6300 CPU and a 6600GT graphics card, A winfast DTV2000 hd tuner card. a 100mbps ethernet, 2 firewires, 6 usb, 2 on front and 4 on back infrared card 2 gig memory and 350gb hard drive. Am i missing any specifications? Can anyone give me a ball park figure on what my asking price should be? MY other question would be instead of buying a new computer should i just get the updates i am wanting? i want the 8800 graphics card, intel quad and a new HD monitor. How do updates work? Can you just repplace the old with the new? This is what i am looking at buying.. http://www.gr-tek.com.au/Ant8800SLI-NoLCD.htm Is this a good price? Please note it is in Australian dollars and that is currently .93 us cents to the australian dollar. Is anyone familiar with this monitor? http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/07/25/benq_fp241w_hdmi_monitor/ .Karnage Krew Gear Store .
mnealtx 0 #2 March 4, 2008 With replacing the motherboard/CPU, you're almost going to HAVE to reinstall the OS - that's not necessarily a bad thing. Assuming the power supply is decently sized (you're probably going to need a *good* 500W with a quad-core and an 8800, you should be able to reuse everything else. Your bottleneck will become your old drives. You *do* know that there are very few progs out there that utilize 4 cores, right? You could most likely get the same performance you would see from a quad out of a core duo (perhaps the new 45nm Penryn core, like an E8400).Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim.
