It would be nice if eBay adopted this, but then they are probably too busy alienating their customers."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. JohnRich 4 #2 March 5, 2008 That sounds nice, and apparently it works for guns. But for more trivial items as found on ebay, it might just make auctions go on forever and ever...
Thanatos340 1 #3 March 5, 2008 It is called Popcorn bidding. Many other auction sites use it. Ebay usues Proxy Bidding. They have considered Popcorn Bidding many times but thier marketing stratagy is to push the you WON it idea. I wish they would have a Popcorn option as well but it is not the way they operate. I never heard the term before, but googling turns up lots of instances. I had come up with the idea of a randomized end time, i.e. seller places a 7-day auction, but the auction actually ends at some random time within a 1-hour window at the end of the seven days. But I like the popcorn idea even better."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. Zenister 0 #8 March 6, 2008 Ive seen an auction type that uses a 'less than a Day' and 'less than an hour' means to prevent sniping. It seems to work pretty well as they have some means of randomizing how early or late they change to 'less than an hour' so you cant sit with a stop watch and try to beat the system either....____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
