Bob Holler's Ash Dive

Recommended Posts

From an e-mail that is being sent around:

The memorial for CMSgt Bob Holler will be at 1300 hours on Friday, 23 March 2007 at the Skydive Deland Dropzone, Deland, Florida. The phone number there is 386-738-3539. The nearest large airport is Orlando (MCO). It's about an hour or so to Deland from Orlando airport. This will be a joint civilian/military function with full military honors provided for the Chief. Bob's wishes were to be cremated and have his ashes spread in freefall. This will be accomplished during the ceremony on Friday.

An appropriate reception will follow immediately after in the drop zone area. Details will be forthcoming on the reception. There will be photo boards for people to bring their favorite pictures of Bob at the reception so please bring whatever photos you would like to share. Make sure your name is at least penciled on the back of your photos to make sure you get them back. Please send me (L.D. Jeffries, Fly2eat@aol.com) any computer pictures you may have that you would like to share. You can also bring them on a CD or thumb drive prior to the ceremony so we can include them.

I will have details for those who would like to donate to a worthy cause in lieu of flowers. Bob just completed a lengthy trip of 6 weeks or so with the BentProp Project in Palau http://www.bentprop.org/. You can read about their exploits and Bob's at their web site. Bob was quite enamored about their mission and shared with me his passion and fascination in their mission, a very honorable and commendable endeavor following in the credo of every Pararescueman, to bring them home with honor. I'm sure you all know that Bob made quite an impact in just his one short mission with them.

The Bob Holler Headquarters will be at the Holiday Inn Deland. I haven't warned them yet as I won't be there until tomorrow afternoon but according to Bob Hallet who owns and runs Skydive Deland, it's close, priced appropriately and convenient to the drop zone. You can call them at 386-738-5200 for reservations. Mention Skydive Deland and you will get a good rate. I will be jumpseating into Orlando tomorrow at 1500 on Southwest Airlines (Thanks Dave McCallen) to meet up with Shiara and help her get settled in. I will have cell phone and computer available for contact. I will post further details through John as I get them or you can get me direct at my information below.

Edit- Word on the street is that the Holiday Inn is booked. Here are some other hotels in the area that I got from the folks at Skydive DeLand, but I don't know if they have the skydiver discount. The area code is (386):

University Inn: 734-5711
Comfort Inn: 736-3100
Howard Johnsons: 736-3440
Skydiver Bunkhouses: call DeLand at 738-3539
