San Fran to LA

How long does that drive take along the coast?

To do it right, three days. Leave the city mid-day and stay north of Monterey the first night for a leisurely few hours drive. Plan to stay the second night in in San Luis Obispo, which will leave a 4-5 hour drive to LA the next day. There is soooo much to see between Monterey and SLO (Monterey Aquarium, Carmel, Big Sur, Hearst Castle...) that although it's only about a three hour drive you can easily stretch it to all day.

For online directions, ask it how to get from SF to Big Sur and then from Big Sur to LA.

Thanks, everyone!

My Dad doesn't do anything leisurely. In fact he said, "find out how many things we can do in 20 minute blocks of time".

They'll be heading out on a Sunday and he mentioned wanting to leave LA on a Wednesday, so there's not too much time especially since they want to see LA too. Maybe my Mom will get him to at least leave on Thursday.

Depending on when they are here in Los Angeles, the Body World exhibit starts March 13th at the California Science Center. It takes longer than 20 minutes to see it though. :)

Oh, sorry to hijack but it'll be here in June and I talked to the kids and we're doing the "Mummies" on IMAX and then the Body World Exhibit. June 27th. Their last day of school. Either they're done by the 3pm show time or they play hooky with me! :)
As the kids said, when I showed them the link and the video they had advertising it ....

AUNTIE! THAT LOOKS SO COOL! CAN WE GO?? WILL YOU TAKE US?? PLEASE! THAT LOOKS SO COOL!!

Yep ... I'm cool. To two 11 year olds and two 13 year olds. B|B|B|

Great place. Not as fancy as the pictures make it seem. It's affordable. Spectacular view and yummy food! :)
Edited: It's in Big Sur.

Holy crap, I believe I ate lunch there. My hamburger was like $12! :S But the view was spectacular!

Dunno. I just like sitting on the deck with a drink looking at the view.

Hint: Eat at McDonald's first. ;):D

If there was one in town, I would have. As it was, the nearest one was a 2 hour drive away, but I took my time taking in the sights. :D

Does your dad remember Daniel Boone on tv from the 50's?

He's 65, so I'm sure he remembers Fess Parker quite well. B|

Hi mama,

How old is your dad? Fess Parker has a rather nice Red Lion Motel in Santa Barbara. Does your dad remember Daniel Boone on tv from the 50's?

Ooooh and if they are into museums, I'd highly recommend the Getty Villa in Malibu (the rennovations are amazing).
