bigway 4 #1 March 10, 2008 I have been asked to help a mate who does not really use the internet. They want me to find them an iphone with the latest firmware and unlocked. So what i am looking for is an iphone that will be able to be used in australia. It seems so much cheaper to buy from the USA. Can anyone point me in the right direction apart from ebay? .Karnage Krew Gear Store .

bigway 4 #3 March 10, 2008 are the 1.1.2 iphones the same as the 1.1.4 or is it JUST an update on firmware? I mean, how many different versions of the iphone have been released? .Karnage Krew Gear Store .

highfly 0 #6 March 11, 2008 The iPhone started out with 1.1.1 We are now up to 1.1.4 if you download a package called ziphone for either pc or Mac you can unlock any iPhone from USA. Its the easiest thing to do. I was worried about bricking mine but I used the soft and it was so simple to do. Look at this blog for a lot more info on Ziphone. http://www.downloadziphone.org/ www.myspace.com/durtymac
bigway 4 #7 March 11, 2008 I nearly went through all this today. However i have decided to wait until it comes to Australia. Reasons i am waiting is because warranty is only valid in the states and it is not valid if it has been unlocked. Iphone max speed is EDGE (20kbps) Australia is on 3G network (700kbps) When the iphone comes here it will be made for the 3g network. It will also have a 2 year warranty. The other thing about iphone in australia is as it will have a market share it will have to be available on all networks. Unlike the USA and the UK, Australia takes Fair trading very serious and lawyers are saying that if iphone was limited to a specific network then it is illegal. An example would be is Ford said there cars can only run on shell gasoline and if the user tried to run it on BP gasoline then it would brick. (shut down). That is illegal in Australia as it is fair trading. So it is a good chance that the iphone will already be unlocked like many of the top phones on networks over here. My jasjam is for the telstra network but comes unlocked, just like all the Razr models. So the main reason i am going to wait is because when the iphone comes here it will be built to be able to handle the 3g network speeds and more than likely will be a newer model and will have a 2 year warranty as other phones here do. I also believe that the next generation iphones will have bigger storage like the 32gb touch. There are jobs being advertised for people to work on the iphone over here in australia on new things so it kind of confirms that my suspicions of it being a newer model once it comes to Australia. Phones need warranty's, the chance of them having problems after 12 months is very high and that is why i am going to wait. On top of all of that, because of the plan i like to take and am currently on the iphone will be free. At the moment i am on the top personal plan with telstra where i got a free $1350 (at the time) phone along with $750 of calls/texts etc per month for only $100 per month. .Karnage Krew Gear Store .
