ACMESkydiver 0 #1 March 10, 2008 I was lying on my right side on the couch, so my left foot was laying on the couch sideways, so big toe is down and little toe is up -does that make sense? 92 pound baby boy plops down on said footie. Footie is smashed toe to toe, bowing it so big toe and little toe are far too close together under footie, ok? So yeah I didn't see my doc for 5 1/2 weeks. I figured I didn't feel a snap so it wasn't broken. It still hadn't healed, so I went in and saw doc. She didn't see any breaks on X-ray, and determined that there was ligament damage. The part that hurts is about an inch up from the second littlest toe -that kind area. Doc has nurse wrap my foot with an ace bandage as all foot supports she had were for the ankle and wouldn't reach down far enough to cover metatarsal area (I think that's right!). Ok so that freaking HURT. Wrapping it compresses it in again, similar to the injury, so frekaing ouch. Not good. I call and she gives me a referral to PT, I ask them if they will wrap it with tape or something so that it won't smoosh the foot in, and they want a whole intake appointment, and all of this BS that I am SO not paying $120 for. The closest thing I can find ANYWHERE to supporting this area is this: http://www.footsmart.com/P-Metatarsal-Sleeve-40121.aspx but again, it would compress the foot inward. What I'm envisioning is something with a hard sole that won't allow the foot to buckle underneath any more, then I could wrap around that and my foot to keep the top/bottom of that area from swelling...but I don't need a whole damn walking boot. ANY thoughts? I was thinking of buying a plain ol' arch support and using that because it's hard...but then does all of this then defeat the purpose of 'rest, ice, compression, elevation? It's this compression issue that hurts because it's mimicing the injury. Doc dosen't have any ideas. ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. PT's are such money sucking whores.I mean, really, it's the same as when the damn doctor wants to SEE me before he/she prescribes the pills I want. Sheesh. turtlespeed 226 #3 March 11, 2008 A nice walkmanauti regimen should heal you up rather quickly - 120 for PT . . . shamless blood suckers . . .I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun
millertime24 8 #4 March 11, 2008 Ideally you should be keeping off of it as much as possible. The wrapping is for support while your walking I would guess and the way I see it if you aint walking why wear something that makes it worse. >>Sarcasm: Also you might even try running said foot over with a car (across the top part of course) to flatten it back out.: End Sarcasm Muff #5048

Oh calm down I'm not saying they're not worth their fee. I'm saying that I am unwilling to pay it. Turns out the new gym we just switched to has a PT on staff with his own office on premesis. The CEO of the club is giving me a session with him (and one with the massage therpist, too...that's cool!) so I'll book that & see how he would advise I wrap it. Problem solved.~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.
sartre 0 #6 March 12, 2008 He won't advise you wrap it if it increases the pain. Hopefully he can make you a splint, but I would be surprised if he had the supplies on hand to do so. PT's are very specialized. Hope you get one who knows something about your injury. Since you're not willing to pay for the expertise.
