How do you make your Verizon LG Voyager use gmail?

I cannot make my new Voyager use my gmail account for mobile email.
Do I have to use mail.google.com? as a web page? Grrrr
I had no problems setting up my company's email account, or my yahoo address, but gmail is being a bitch.

I had already checked that page, but I forgot to enable pop3's on my gmail settings.
