jcd11235 0 #2 April 1, 2008 How did the drive go bad? What indications are there? Is it recognized at all by the OS? You said the drive was previously used with Windows. What OS are you using now? The first thing I would do, since you say the drive is bad, is a bit level copy of the entire drive onto a drive known to be good. That way you deal with access problems independently of drive problems. That assumes, of course, that the drive has enough life left to be copied.Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! PhreeZone 20 #7 April 1, 2008 Is the hard drive completely unreadable or what is the status of the drive right now? If the drive will spin up can you browse the file structure as the drive is plugged in as a secondary drive or is appearing as blank? If you can see the files you should be able to copy/paste to a good hard drive unless you had them encrypted with something like PGP or similar. NTFS permissions on those files is obliterated when that drive is not mounted as the boot drive any more. You shouldn't need the Windows password if you mount it as a secondary drive. If it is appearing as blank let me know, I might be able to help off line.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

shermanator 4 #10 April 2, 2008 I hook it up as a secondary, and can see the files. When I start browsing, I go into documents and settings, can see the different users, click on the user i want to get the files from, but it gives me a prompt telling me that access is denied. .. Lisa, unfortunately, this is not the drive with my skydiving photos/videos is completely toast. i can't even get it going as a secondary drive.. plug it in, and it freezes my system. oh well. I'll miss all those files. I just got myself a 500gig hd and am installing windows on it now, so i can try again on the one i want to get files. *thats how i blew mine out. ooops.* grrrrr, now apparently, i can only access 130gigs of the 500. oh well. I'm too cheap to go out and buy a new tower. CLICK HERE! new blog posted 9/21/08 CSA #
tdog 0 #11 April 2, 2008 Was it in an XP or Vista or Win2000 computer previously? Have you right clicked the files and tried to take ownership under permissions/properties/security?
