millertimeunc 0 #1 April 14, 2008 First flight ever, my instructor demonstrated a touch-n-go once, and then it was up to me to do the next 4, then we flew to an area about 14 miles away and did steep turns, power off stalls, and slow flight before coming back and landing again. Damn, the Air Force really throws you off the deep end when you're first learning to fly! Lots of fun, though! The best things in life are dangerous. AggieDave 6 #3 April 14, 2008 Congrats. Why is it called a dollar ride? Was there a pole and were you wearing a thong? Or perhaps its some sort of USAF tradition? I'm not a pilot, but I am a guy and "dollar ride" in my mind doesn't involve airplanes. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Andrewwhyte 1 #4 April 14, 2008 Maybe because if he completes the training it will cost each and every one of you a dollar.
AggieDave 6 #5 April 14, 2008 Having just paid my taxes I think I paid $2 to that training. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
millertimeunc 0 #6 April 14, 2008 It's called a dollar ride because you owe your instructor a dollar for your first flight. It's a USAF tradition. We had a smartass Canadian come through here a while back and pay $1.26 (value of a Canadian dollar at the exchange rate of the time) for his first ride. The best things in life are dangerous. millertimeunc 0 #8 April 14, 2008 We're learning on DA-20's out here, which is sort of like a glider with a weed eater engine attached to the front. 125 hp takes a while to get you anywhere. The best things in life are dangerous.
