CSpenceFLY 1 #2 April 17, 2008 There is a pressure relief valve that is supposed to open when the landing gear compresses upon landing. I've heard stories out of the military about people being behind a C-130 when the ramp was unlocked and being hit by the ramp.
jonstark 8 #3 April 17, 2008 All it takes is just enough pressure inside to make your ears even think of popping and it'll kill ya if you unlatch a door while you're standing under it. Imagine 1/10 psi on an area of 2' X 3' and do the math to figger out how many pounds of force are gonna come to bear on your head if it pops open. When things start going fast in a troubleshooting environment you better know what the hazards are and double check yourself. Had a friend crippled by wheelwell doors in a Gulfstream because he got moving too fast and wasn't being careful enough. Not that what he was doing was unsafe, he just let one detail get out of sequence and it bit him hard. Know another instance of a mechanic getting killed by closing the nosewell doors of a GIII on himself not knowing how to avoid a simple hazard. There go the quick and the dead. jon
