Icon134 0 #1 March 19, 2008 My 01' Protege appears to have a rattle in the front left quarter panel of the car. I'll do my best to describe it but I'm not sure I'll be successful. Basically, when ever I pass over a bump/feature in the road going in a straight line there is a noticable rattle comming from the front drivers side wheel area. It doesn't occur if I'm cornering and although I have removed the wheel (and looked in the engine bay) nothing appears to be loose. I'm at a loss and am hoping for some insite before taking it to the mechanic to get worked on. Any Ideas as to what it might be? ScottLivin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife... Icon134 0 #3 March 19, 2008 Quotehow long after impact does it rattle, or is it a single noise (click)it is not a single click... it will go for maybe 5-10 seconds with the first being the loudest then fading as the road smoothes... or until I hit another bump. Icon134 0 #5 March 19, 2008 QuoteSounds like you have a worn out ball jointWouldn't that have an effect on both the handling of the car and the wear on the tire? The car doesn't handle any differently and there is no noticable unusual wear on the tire.Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife... DeNReN 0 #6 March 19, 2008 get the car checked out by a mechanic...no one here online can diagnose it. however...the most common noise maker on that car would be the sway bar links... but I am just a master mechanic....best take the backyarders advice

I was kind of thinking it might be something like that. I don't think it's the sway bar (but it very well may be.) I know where the sway bar is on the wheel and it doesn't appear to be dammaged...
