Third world internet...

Besides Eskom (SA's only supplier of electricity) imposing regular 'loadshedding' (cutting the power on a regular schedule due to lack of adequate supply), my ISP is screwed.

I'm on a cellular modem & used to get 3.6 Mb/s. For the past 2 weeks I can only connect at 53.6 Kb/s (same as dial-up)...

With our haphazard power supply, I can't work for at least 2-3 hours every second day & with my current slow internet connection I can't really play around on dz.com... Just feeling sorry for myself

Hey Johann, sorry to hear about your internet connection. Have you ever looked into satellite broadband? This site has some good info on providers covering SA.

Thanks for the link! I'd never really considered it, but have now sent a few e-mails to get more info.

I came across pricing on one supplier's website & the monthly costs are quite cheap. The initial hardware installation was quoted as $2295, though. If that's the standard, I won't be able to go that route

The only certain thing is that I WILL be changing my ISP.
