Beer 0 #3 April 18, 2008 Click on the apple icon in the upper left corner, scroll down to software update. Blue apple again, preferences, software update, set when to automatically search for updates. It will ask which ones you want. You can select for critical updates to download automatically. You'll like the Mac so much better. Want to get rid of a program? Drag it to the trash. no searching for 143 files buried in 59 folders. Oh, and no random crashes of the system freezing and locking up, unless of course you are trying to use a windows based program. Learn to be happy. You can't be there for anybody else in life if you can't learn to be there for yourself.

I would just add that it's a good idea to try updating again after software update completes. On rare occasions, usually on new machines, there will be two incremental updates available at the same time. When such is the case, Software update will only install one at a time. (Leopard may actually recheck automatically.) For best results with Quicktime, download Fip4Mac, which adds the ability for QT to play Windows Media files, and Perian, which adds gives Quicktime the ability to play AVI, FLV, DivX, and many other formats. I'm not sure what format CNN uses.Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

kingbunky 3 #6 April 18, 2008 for most programs, you can just delete the .app file, but some programs do scatter stuff around a little. i use appzapper (might be appzappr or something else cute) to uninstall. you run appzapper, drag the .app file onto it and it will look aound for files that belong with it. it gives you a list of what it finds, and you can choose to keep them or delete them all with one click. it even makes a cool zapping sound when it does it. i read a review that said you could even drag appzapper onto itself. it makes the noise, and when you close it, it is gone from your system. Another recommendation I would make to you, as a new Mac user, is to create a second account with admin privileges, and then removing the admin privileges from the account you normally use. This will add an extra layer of security to your system.Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
