bertusgeert 1 #1 April 21, 2008 If you could live in Seattle for six months - would you do it: 1. From 1 August to 20th of January, or.. 2. From 21st of Jan to 30 July? I'm mostly concerned about weather - which time I will be able to enjoy the most - I ski, hike/climb, getting into sailing, a bit of biking and of course jump also --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei! NWFlyer 2 #2 April 21, 2008 1. From 1 August to 20th of January, You'll get to enjoy more hiking, climbing, sailing, biking, and jumping - July, August, September will be perfect for all of those, and even into October a bit. November and December will be dreary and rainy, though by December the snow levels should be decent enough that the ski resorts will start to open and should be great through January. 2. From 21st of Jan to 30 July You'll get to ski from January, probably into April, depending on the year. There are a few year round hikes that you can start as early as April or May, but a lot of the hiking will still be snow-bound till June or even July. Seattle will be dreary and cold and rainy, so you won't get in too much biking or sailing. The weather won't be consistent till June or July for jumping. It definitely won't be consistently warm till July. So... I'd say the August-January time frame is your better bet for enjoying more of the things you like to do. JohnMitchell 16 #6 April 21, 2008 Don't forget to bring your rig. We have a twin otter DZ an hour and some change from Seattle. Live on the south end, and you'll be that much closer.

Assuming traffic is reasonable. When I lived in Colorado, I could get to a rural DZ 100 miles away consistently in one hour and fifteen minutes when I had enough points left on my license. Without any state income tax in Washington, they don't have any money to pay for roads so there aren't enough lanes. It often took me an hour and a half to make it up to Mt Vernon (about 60 miles, for some reason people just slow down around Everett) and two hours plus to get to or from Shelton on nice summer days (about 90 miles, there's a big Tacoma to Olympia slow down). You will like the DZ and people, but might want camping equipment to make the most of the drive time.

Amazon 7 #9 April 21, 2008 It takes me at the very least 2.5 hours to get to Kapowsin from my place....if I drive in the middle of the night. I have had it take me 4 hours to get home from there on a Sunday afternoon....point being... I dont make it down there. I have had better luck just taking the WA State Ferry across from Edmonds to Kingston and get on Hwy3 going south.. but then you have to hit that freakin mess outside Bremerton when everything backs up when the lanes end till after you get past Belfair..... on a Friday after woirk.. just not doableI just need to buy a C-182 for myself and freakin fly down... Daymnn John, Maybe from your house but staring out from downtown Seattle your looking at a wee bit more then an hour and change to get to Shelton. It can take over an hour to get to Snohomish from Seattle... I live on the other side of the sound and it takes me 1 hour and 15/20min to get to Shelton... Saying it is an hour and some change reminds me of the joke about why women cant be good carpenters... Scott C."He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!" JohnMitchell 16 #11 April 22, 2008 Welllllll, I didn't say how much change. I'm still in shock from living only 15-20 minutes away from the DZ all those years to now living 1 hour+ away. I sure miss the days of going out on bad weather days just to maybe get a hop and pop. Oh well, it's worth the drive on a good day.
