These poor girls are ashamed to be seen eating alone. They're worried that they'll be judged by hot men like you ("Why is a beautiful girl like her eating alone? There must be something fundamentally wrong with her for her to eat in public alone.") so they sneak away as quickly as possible, hoping that you don't notice her shame. It has nothing to do with the fact that she has a job she has to get back to, or friends that she's meeting for lunch, or errands she needs to run or anything like that at all.

Really, they're just hoping that you'll approach them with your best opening line and an invitation to join you at your table. Next time, give that a try.

I often pick up food and bring it home to eat, because I'd rather sit in my awesome backyard to eat than in some generic restaurant in a strip mall. And there are plenty of restaurants close to my house, so the food doesn't get cold.

I have no problem with sitting down alone to eat in a restaurant, but I usually have no reason to. (But I'm probably too old now to be considered a "cute girl" anyway.)

And this thread is giving me deja vu.... I'm sure we've had a similar thread before(????), but I couldn't find it when I searched.
