happythoughts 0 #1 April 23, 2008 As Joan Rivers says... but can we hear each other talk in freefall ? (This was mentioned in a thread about what goes on in movies.) You can clearly hear each other talk inside the burble of a raft. If you are on the outside of the raft and get your face on the edge, you can hear a little also. (Lots of hooting/hollering going on. ) I have done a sidebody and pulled my head up on someones container when falling through sleet to protect my neck/face. The person on the other side did the same. (We were mainly cursing, so clarity was not an issue) Recently, I was in an 8-way base when a girl got into her slot between me and another guy. We were flying tight shoulder grips. On the ground, my buddy asked me, "Did you hear that girl yell 'Wahooo' when she docked?" [Laugh] [Laugh] I have often wondered if you were doing a Mr. Bill like the Point Break jump and were that tight, would the burble allow some of a conversation to be heard ? Experiences? pilotdave 0 #2 April 23, 2008 On my first night jump, I ended up doing a 2-way with a more experienced jumper. In freefall he asked "DO YOU WANT TO SITFLY?" I heard it clear as day... errr clear as on the ground. I must have had a full face helmet on too. Really weird... BTW... I just shook my head and yelled back "NO." RkyMtnHigh 0 #3 April 23, 2008 There's a freeflyer at Clewiston who I used to jump with named "Lucky Mike" (he had his name legally changed to that name too) and his laugh was so loud that all of us heard it, especially when we were head down. _________________________________________
poe62 0 #4 April 23, 2008 I'm a world class sucky skydiver, so the L.O. put me next to her in the door so we could stay together since I'm really floaty. When I left the plane perfectly with her and the others, she yelled "good job!" I totally heard her...even through my full face helmet. We were nowhere near full speed yet though, so I guess that doesn't really count. ~Nikki http://www.facebook.com/poe62 Irgity Dirgity
BillyVance 35 #5 April 23, 2008 I can talk to my fellow deaf skydivers at any speed in freefall. One funny jump was a 22 way speed star out of the Casa, which then would transition to two 11 way stars. The organizer and another guy were base. John and I (both deaf) were first divers out in two rows. I gave him a shove just after exit and beat him in by a second and I signed "hahahaha" and he replied with a "fuck you" sign. BillyVance 35 #7 April 23, 2008 Quote I thought you have to do a solo night jump before you are allowed on group night jumps? That's pretty much standard protocol. I can't speak for everybody, but everywhere I've done night jumps and everyone I know (I think) who have done night jumps did solos on their first."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban

marcandalysse 0 #9 April 23, 2008 one time during a 4way annemarie had her dytter set to 4500 and alysse heard it so clearly she thought it was breakoff time (4000). its easy to hear whoops and rebel yells while doing a small round...but not an entire conversation like in PBmarc "The reason angels can fly is that they take themselves so lightly." --GK Chesterton

I think I should be able to communicate "hahahah" and "fuck you" in freefall too Still, must be nice to be able to chat like that in freefall
MikeJD 0 #11 April 24, 2008 QuoteI totally heard her...even through my full face helmet. From my experience a full face helmet actually helps you hear voices in freefall. Obviously it attenuates all noise to an extent, but I guess not having the wind rushing directly over your earholes allows other sound to filter though that interference better.
