DavidB 0 #26 April 24, 2008 Quote Quote [ That's one thing America does have a handle on - STRAIGHT LINES FOR ROADS! Is that why Clarkson on Top Gear claims Americans can't make cars that can take corners? Oh, but how I'd love to take him on a little drive in my 68 Dodge Dart, or my brother's 68 Plymouth Barracuda. Both were rebuilt using mostly stock parts (exceptions are sway bars & Koni shocks). As far as gas prices, US vs abroad, we pay less than 10% in taxes & I think, in Europe especially, taxes are closer to 50%. BTW, latest I read today says prices are rising now because demand is going DOWN! This right after saying prices are rising because "summer driving season" is approaching & demand is expected to go up. WTF!?!?!?!? The media has finally used EVERY excuse there is!When the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.

NEW: $10 bill for gas is expected to go up to $12 soon so you can buy your FOREVER GAS BILL for $11 and it will be good until you need it.My photos My Videos
AggieDave 6 #28 April 24, 2008 QuoteIs that why Clarkson on Top Gear claims Americans can't make cars that can take corners? It does explain American style motorcycles. My Kawasaki (made in Indiana) doesn't corner really hard, in fact I have to slow down for some major corners so I don't drag the pipes or the kickstand on the other side. However, on the wide open road it runs like a champ. My VW is being built to corner, though, so I guess I'll have to go find some good corners. Too bad I'm not building it to be really fuel efficient (78.8mm stroke and 94mm bore with some MONSTER heads and dual Weber 44s).--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." klingeme 1 #30 April 24, 2008 QuoteIn 1975, entry-level construction labor paid $6 an hour. I made $9 an hour as a rodbuster. I paid 50 cents a gallon for the highest octane gas for my sports car. It cost $5 to fill the 10 gallon tank. Gas is now over 7 times as expensive. Income is still the same for a lot of people. You don't even have to go that far back. I remember about 12-13 years ago, paying $0.87 a gallon.
