Rangers Forward Sean Avery Hospitalized

Initial reports were that h was in cardiac arrest. Now reports are that he ruptured his spleen during last night's game.

I've ALWAYS been an Avery fan - even despite my disappointment at losing Matthieu Schneider to get him from the Red Wings. I remember when he was an LA King - a fucking pest with some decent skills - the long lost Hansen Brother. In a survey, 2/3 of the NHL players said he is the most hated player in the league.

Of course, he also has recently expanded his lore by having a rule named after him. Much like th eLester Hayes Rule in the NFL, which ended stickum, Avery visually and verbally harrassed future hall of famer Martin Brodeur to prevent him from seeing the puck. New rule - that's unsportsmanlike conduct.

Now Avery has taken after Forsberg - ruptured spleen during the second round of the playoffs. Like Frosberg, the tough freaking guy finished the game - with a ruptured spleen.

I'm sure many will rejoice at the lack of Avery in the playoffs. Not me. The NHL is smart enough to recognize that Avery is an attraction.

p.s. - a couple of years ago, there was a bit on the "What would Jesus do" shirts wherein there was created a shirt, "What Would Avery Do?"

I'm a big Pens fan and have to say that I am enjoying the series so far, but that doesn't mean that I'm glad to see Avery in this situation. I hope he heals quickly (just in time for a nice round of golf)!

I think there are PLENTY of people glad to see Avery in this situation. Plenty who will think he got what he has coming to him.

That's probably true. I'm just not one of those people. I'm not saying I respect all of his tactics or that I'll be a big Avery fan, but that doesn't mean I feel that he had it coming.

Boooo Rangers. I hate both of the teams, but since Hossa and DuPuis are on the Pens, I'm pulling for them.
