MikeJD 0 #28 May 1, 2008 Andy, despite popular opinion (often repeated on these forums), I don't think skydivers are a special breed. They're 99.9% regular people - and we all know that regular people can be idiots, especially on the internet. Don't get me wrong - I do feel a special affinity for others who share this passion - but there are plenty of them I wouldn't trust to do the right thing. I think you just set your expectations too high.
NWFlyer 2 #29 May 1, 2008 Quote Not any more than any other group. Internet message boards seem to highlight some negative behavior, but the people I meet at DZ's are about average for society, which I admit, is kinda a low curve to grade on. Exactly. See attached picture for proof. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. SivaGanesha 2 #33 May 1, 2008 QuoteBunch of emotionally, backwards, attention seeking fuckwits who didnt get enough attention at scool? I wonder if choice of discipline says something about whether a given skydiver is an attention seeker. The canopy disciplines--CReW, swooping, BASE--would appear to be much more likely to generate 'attention' than the freefall disciplines--formation skydiving, freestyle--where the only people who will even see the jump are fellow jumpers who are depending on good performance (not egos) to stay alive."It's hard to have fun at 4-way unless your whole team gets down to the ground safely to do it again!"--Northern California Skydiving League re USPA Safety Day, March 8, 2014

But I think if someone were the attention seeking type, they would be much more drawn to the disciplines where you get more attention. In freefall you don't get much attention except from those you are jumping with."It's hard to have fun at 4-way unless your whole team gets down to the ground safely to do it again!"--Northern California Skydiving League re USPA Safety Day, March 8, 2014
