MichaelMoore 0 #1 April 30, 2008 I’m looking for a girls perspective. What is so “controversial” about these pics? I saw one b/w pic with her back exposed. Ohh no! do we live in Iran? She’s not 9 years old, she is almost 16!
chaoskitty 0 #2 April 30, 2008 The "controversy" sells magazines. That's all its about. Britney started out the same way.
Jewels 0 #3 April 30, 2008 I think 15 is pretty young for those kinds of photos. It's not simply that her back is exposed, it's the overall feeling of the photo. It's a sexy shot and a provocative look. Put her age in a little perspective: She's not even old enough to have her own driver's license (maybe a learner's permit). There will be plenty of people who see nothing wrong with it, but I think it's really pushing it for a 15 year old. Just because other cultures may treat these things differently doesn't mean they're right for OUR culture. If I had a 15 year old daughter, there's no way I'd want her posing for those kinds of photos. Even with very mentally-mature-for-their-age girls, there's still a lot of little girl left in most 15 year olds. Teenagers may come across as all grown up one moment and then say or do somthing in the next moment that makes you realize how young they really are. Selling this image at this age is pushing the envelope for her, personally, and is sending a message to other girls who look up to her--including girls who may very well be younger than she is by a year or two or more.TPM Sister #
RkyMtnHigh 0 #4 April 30, 2008 I'm not sure why so many are shocked by Miley Cyrus' pics in Vanity Fair. Back in 1978, Brooke Shields', age 12, in "Pretty Baby" is more disturbing to me (BTW, the following clip is *NSFW*) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqCoIETJTsk&feature=related _________________________________________
TheCaptain 2 #5 April 30, 2008 I would think the real issue is that Miley is idolized by a huge audience of young girls and boys (I would guess 8 to 16) that watch her on what most every parent would look at as a wholesome network " Diseny". I know my son who is 12 always tivo's Hanna Montanna
Nightingale 0 #6 April 30, 2008 I don't think Miley really knew what she was getting into, and she probably just did what the photographer told her. I do think the photos are a bit too racy for a fifteen year old, but I don't really think Miley intended them that way. That said, it's done, the photos are out there, and in two weeks, nobody is going to care.

She is a child not an adult, and in my opinion, should not be taking adult oriented photographs for a magazine. What kind of message is she sending to her peers and fans? MichaelMoore 0 #11 April 30, 2008 My point is whether you agree or disagree, we still perceive these girls as being older than they are. This MadTV skit illustrates my point. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymLTO-GxZoQ
Muenkel 0 #12 April 30, 2008 QuoteWhat kind of message is she sending to her peers and fans? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I don't know? Can anybody answer that? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Somehow I don't think her fan base of kids and pre-teens is reading Vanity Fair. Those pics are all over the internet. I would guess that a huge percentage of her fans have already seen them. Michael, I know you asked for a female point of view. I hope you don't mind an opinion from a male old enough to be her father. Some of those pictures were sexual in nature and completely inappropriate for a 15 year old girl. I think Bill Ray used very poor judgment. Same thing happened with Brooke Shields and Britney. Fortunately Brooke came out all right, but we know what's happened with Britney. I know everyone is different, but a 15 year old is still a child. She already is making plenty of bucks and is very famous. How much more does she need? I believe this was a very un-wise move. _________________________________________ Chris

There are several points about this. First, it seems that she and her handlers/father/etc., have gone to some lengths to keep her image clean. (Of course, the same thing was tried with Britney Spears and we see where that got her). On top of that, Billy Ray seems to have been remarkably careful about her image. Then again, her handlers MUST have been there for the shoot. I cannot see how she was "manipulated" without the consent of her handlers who KNOW her image and fan base. I read her parents had left by the time those pics were taken, but that her grandmother and some kind of rep were still there. lawrocket 3 #16 April 30, 2008 Sadly, my opinion is that this has as much of a chance of being a publicity stunt as anything. Famous subject? Check. Famous photographer? Check. Glitz Magazine? Check. Subject is girl with wholesome image? Check. Pose to challenge this image? Check. Handlers present? Check. Outrage prior to photos being released? Check. The buzz generated over this is worth millions. My thoughts are that this could have been a publicity stunt. My wife is hotter than your wife.

PLFXpert 0 #22 May 1, 2008 Quote I don't think Miley really knew what she was getting into, I like you, but that's hilarious. She's naked (at least topless) with a blanket covering her goodies. She didn't know at 15-years-old that was a little racy? I agree, however, it will not likely hurt her in the long run. Frankly, I don't think she should have addressed it so soon. It's almost as if she brought attention to it herself. I don't think it would have been such a big deal had she not made a pre-emptive statement about it. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
Nightingale 0 #23 May 1, 2008 I think Miley is pretty naive, and her parents were on the set when the photo was taken, so I think she just went with it.
Muenkel 0 #24 May 2, 2008 Like Carrie said, Miley is 15. She knew what she was doing. With that said, I still put the blame on the parents. This was bad parenting all for a buck. On a side note: Annie Leibowitz has really pissed me off with this. She is an accomplished photo-journalist and did not need this notoriety. This was in extremely poor taste on her part also. _________________________________________ Chris
