Gawain 0 #3 May 6, 2008 Best wishes for a speedy recovery. I imagine that we can expect more injuries like this in the future, as the average age of skydivers increases. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! vskydiver 0 #4 May 6, 2008 I used to have to hike my leg straps back up before I pulled all the time. (wave off, reach with both hands and yank leg straps back into place, then pull.) I wear slick suits and even when the leg straps are tight they still fell down. I always wondered if it would break your leg if they didn't get pulled back up. Yikes! A couple years ago I sewed a strap between them so they don't slip anymore. I did that when I almost fell out of the harness on opening one time. I'm pretty sure my legs would get broken if I fell out of the harness. I really recommend everyone sewing or tying your leg straps together.
BIGUN 1,489 #5 May 6, 2008 I'm cornfused... why wouldn't he have just cinched down his legstrap during the 7,000' of wonderment?Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
NWFlyer 2 #6 May 7, 2008 It just sounds like crappy reporting/editing. Loose leg strap on the plane, hop & pop, femur broke on opening and the "7,000 foot fall" is just him trying to get down under canopy in (understandably) excruciating pain. At least that was my interpretation since they also say he "jumped out of the plane and pulled his ripcord." Maybe a Chester local knows the actual story?"There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
