BillyVance 35 #5 May 7, 2008 QuoteI have cable so I am all set? No, you'll probably still need the converter... We're all switching to digital TV by next February I think. Gene03 0 #7 May 8, 2008 I'm thinking it isn't that simple... what about the anntena?“The only fool bigger than the person who knows it all is the person who argues with him. peek 21 #8 May 8, 2008 QuoteI'm thinking it isn't that simple... what about the anntena? Yes, it's that simple. If your antenna is adequate for the analog signal you are now receiving it will be fine for DTV. Of course many, many scams are going to surface related to this change, which always happens when something new and technical comes along. I already received an ad from a cable company suggesting that it would be easier to subscribe to cable so that the cable company employee can come out and take care of everything for me rather than me having to go through this "complicated" procedure of adding a DTV converter. (If I were a very non-technical senior citizen maybe...) If you can hook up a DVD player to your TV you can add a DTV converter. Nutz 0 #11 May 8, 2008 How many people actually use an antenna? If you have cable - you will have to do nothing. My Dad went out and bought all new tv's because they were going to quit working in February. He has cable. "Don't! Get! Eliminated!"

BillyVance 35 #13 May 8, 2008 Glad to know it. Guess I mis-understood the deal. And no, I didn't buy any new TVs yet. I always drag my feet when buying new stuff. I wait til everybody on the block has it, then I get it. normiss 900 #15 May 8, 2008 and they're not the only ones.... compare satellite and cable HD signals side by side...or over the air for that matter. satellite and antennae are the bestest!
ryoder 1,590 #16 May 8, 2008 An interesting note on over-the-air antennas: There is a old UHF antenna design called the Hoverman that never became very popular, due to not having sufficient bandwidth to cover the entire UHF TV band. With the sale of the 700MHz spectrum, the FCC has again lopped of the top of the UHF TV band, narrowing it down to the point the Hoverman is now practical, and in fact outperforms other designs. If you Google around, you can find forums of hobbyists who are sharing plans for homebuilding it."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones.
