Having an RSL attached?

Recommended Posts

The answer is maybe. It will require at least a master rigger and approval from the manufacturer ( I THINK we all agree on that one:P), with one exception. The MUCH better course of action is to call the manufacturer and have the work done there. Some rigs will require more work than others.

There is a person who has a field approval from a FAA inspector to alter all most any harness and add an RSL. This is inspite of some (most) manufaturers not agreeing with this approval. PM me if you want the information. It will probably come up shortly anyway. As I understand it some riggers will refuse to pack a rig with the aftermarket, non-manufacturer installation, and the manufacturer may gound the rig if it comes into the shop. This will be another hot topic of conversation and is somewhat political in nature.

If a rig doesnt have an RSL, can you have one installed?

Yes. Best to have done by the manufacturer of the container, if the rig is not set up for one, as componants may need to be added to the container.

Can a rigger just order and install one on any rig?

Only if it is set up for one. The only rigger I know that has a blanket FAA approval for RSL instalation on non RSL ready rigs is Ray Ferrel. He can be contacted through www.actionair.com.

Probably the best advice is to contact the manufacturer if you'd like one added.

Thanks for the quick replies.....both of you. The rig is a Javelin J-1. manufactured 92. So I can just get ahold of Sun Path and see if they will add one for me?

Thanks again,

That's what I'd do. Give them the serial number, and they can tell you if it's RSL ready or not.

If so they can send you a lanyard and shackle, if not it might have to go in for work.
