People who fish: what the heck is this?

Recommended Posts

I'll go with Moray or other eel - dried up, flattened a bit, chewed on considerably. No idea how it could be there - maybe an aquarium pet that got dumped into a lake by someone that didn't know any different?

Good guess, but I seriously doubt that a moray could survive in fresh water.

It certainly looks like an eel, but those teeth are not characteristic of any freshwater eels in North America...which is why I find this so puzzling.

Speaking of ugly fish, here's a video of a fossil shark, caught off the coast of Japan. Fascinating...

Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

I have no idea, but I hope I never meet a girl who reminds me of it. :o:D

Edit to add: Maybe it's a scaly man-fish. :|

Eels are extraordinarily durable and have been able to survive in brackish water for very long periods. I have no doubt that one could survive a few days or maybe even weeks in fresh water, but I don't think the original article claimed that it came from the lake - it may have been dragged by a raccoon out of someone's fish tank.

Imagine having to go through life with a face like that, where would you get a job? except for maybe the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Please post update if the biologists figure it out.

Curiosity finally got the better of me, and I emailed the biologist:

Well Kris it is a lake trout aka mackinaw. ...Last week that was verified through genetic DNA analysis.

Thanks

I love it!

I e-mail curiosity questions all the time. I get an answer 50% of the time. I LOVE it when I get an answer. :)

I find that hard to beleive. Your government at work protecting you, "No need to alarm the common folk with the truth."

I still say it looks like a run over snake fish.

I'm a biologist and we have been telling people here in SC for years that, "no, that was not a mountain lion you saw." Because then there would be land restrictions, etc. and some folks would start hunting them.
Give one city to the thugs so they can all live together. I vote for Chicago where they have strict gun laws.
