U.S. Canadian Border Crossing

Recommended Posts

This is NOT speakers corner material; I just have a question.

I have some friends visiting from out of town - they originally had a trip booked to Niagara Falls, but because their travel agent screwed them over they asked me to take them (they're paying my way + gas, so of course I said yes. B|) We plan on leaving Friday.

Anyway, they have a legal tourist Visa for the U.S. & Poles, do not need a separate visa for Canada. Therefore, by all accounts, they should be able to cross the border & back with just a passport. However, there's some confusion in regards to the type of passport - some new ones are apparently coming out in the near future that are more computerized, making them more easily scan-able. The question is (& does anybody know) if you can use the present PP's to cross the border?... Whatever these new 1's are, they're not to be used till January, of 09. But I'm not sure

If the passports are invalid, no country would accept them. You must be misunderstanding something. My guess is that the passports are fine since they have been issued to the individuals at hand.

The way it was explained to me is that the US will ONLY accept the newer passports from Jan 09, so post that date they need the new ones, Australia has hAD THE NEW TYPE FOR SEVERAL YEARS, the contain a computer printed photo, and a scanable code, not the older type with the laminated picture

your best bet is acquire the #'s of the boarder's u will be crossing and ask the questions there....

or like someone suggested...ask at the american boarder before u cross...

I know all we use is the present PP's with the laminated photo's...my girlfriend just got her's a few weeks ago...
we are in canada

hope this helps
