Slowfaller 0 #1 May 15, 2008 Day 8 report here w/ info on side affects and me Alright, another week since my day 8 post and things have been a little bumpy w/ smoking. Weekends are horrible, I smoked one pack in two days. However once my work week starts I fall back into a routine of saying no to cravings (habit). I've had the same pack of smokes since Saturday night and have been tallying (sp?) my cigs on my work calandar. Sunday 6 (inlaws over for mom's day and I grilled. Smoking outside is a habit) Monday 2 Tues 6 (went golfing, habit more than craving) Wed 4 (went to dog park, again outside. Got video!) Thurs (today) zero! One thing worth mentioning is I'm smoking maybe half of one each time and wasting the rest. I have two left in my pack which I "hid" in the center console of my car. Having them and not needing them is more comforting than throwing them away IMO. Plus, I might want one Going for a Dr visit tomorrow to update him. Since I haven't had any today I'm calling today my quit date but I've said that before Chris --"Someday you will die and somehow somethings going to steal your carbon" -MM
Shepp 0 #2 May 15, 2008 Chris - Can I offer a word of advice? Today I celebrate 1 month being smoke-free thanks to Chantix, and these are some things that helped me immensely: 1. Finish the smokes you've got (or better yet, pitch them in the garbage) and stop buying "emergency" packs to stash 2. Throw away ALL of your lighters AND matches 3. Throw away your ashtrays or butt cans (mine was a flower pot on my porch) 4. Steer clear of your friends who smoke and the PLACES you smoke frequently for a few days, maybe a few weeks 5. If you are like I was, you smoke in the car. Start driving with your windows UP and the A/C running instead. Basically, try to make smokes an "out of sight, out of mind, out of your life" thing. Become a person who doesn't smoke - rather than a smoker who is trying to quit. Making your mind believe that is the hardest part!! Good luck Chris - feel free to PM me if you want to talk about about Chantix, smoking, or whatever. -SheppExperience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterward. Slowfaller 0 #3 May 15, 2008 Thanks for the advice Shepp and congrats on your smoke free month! I will try some of these and report again next Thursday. Public indoors is smoke free here so that should help but I'll have to avoid some friends' houses, no biggie. (I feel that me writing it out helps whether people want to read it or not. dz.com is a comfortable place.) Chris ps. gotta keep the lighters....for candles! My wife loves her candles. --"Someday you will die and somehow somethings going to steal your carbon" -MM
catfishhunter 2 #4 May 15, 2008 Been 4 months for me and I still crave a smoke. But having 6 years clean I know how to deal with a craving until it goes away and it ALWAYS goes away. I gues thats the Key know it will go away if I just don't pick up. I do have a suggestion that worked for me in the early stages of using Chantix. I went and bought the Step 3 Patches. Days I knew I was going to be in the car for a long time (when I smoked the most) I would put a patch on in the morning. I tried not to use them every day and some days I would put one on in the afternoon. I never kept them on longer then 14 hours though. For me that little bit helped get through the really rough days. I wish you the best of Luck. I stopped many times in my life and each time it was because I wanted to. I also know the day I smoke ONE cig I am no longer a non-smoker because I can't ever just have one of anything. MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. We must live life to the fullest EVERY DAY. Everything we do should have a greater purpose.

SkydiveJack 1 #6 May 16, 2008 Just don't quit quiting! I have been smoke free for three weeks now. I'm using the gum. Seems to work well for me. For the most part I have been staying away from places where people smoke. Last weekend was my big test. I was in Vegas for three days and didn't give in while I was drinking in the casino with all the smokers. Don't buy any more smokes. Ask your Dr. if you can use the gum at the same time. It really takes the edge off for me. Good Luck!
