sickandtwisted 0 #1 May 20, 2008 give blood? Today, my work is having a blood drive. In the past, they have had it on a Friday. I can't give blood on Friday & jump on Saturday (not recommended). I am amazed by the number of people who are afraid to give. Especially since my work allows us to remain on the clock while donating.Skymama stalker #69!!!! Baksteen 84 #6 May 20, 2008 I'm on meds - they won't have me. Besides, the new DUtch slogan to get more people t donate is: "You give blood with your heart" Thanks, but I'd prefer my left arm if it's all the same to you "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

JohnMitchell 16 #9 May 20, 2008 I give about every other month, O+. There's also some viral antibody my blood doesn't have, an antibody harmful to newborns, so my blood can be used for infant surgery. I found that out one day when they told me my blood was going to be used for infant open heart surgery. I told them they could take all they needed. boinky 0 #12 May 20, 2008 Nope. I'm not afraid to give blood at all. I don't care for needles though, so I just don't watch! In fact, I gave blood at a mobile unit in front of a Walmart in Georgia late last December. Got into a huge "discussion" with my mother about it. But I ignored her and did it anyway. I'm trying to encourage my son to do the right things in life. And I feel that teaching him to give blood is a good thing. Nina Are we called "DAWGs" because we stick our noses up people's butts? NWFlyer 2 #15 May 20, 2008 Nope, not afraid, and I donate as often as I'm eligible. I miss the job I had where they had quarterly blood drives, though ... that made it super-easy to donate (and it was usually mid-week, so rarely a problem with skydiving). Just think of the cookies. tigra 0 #18 May 20, 2008 I used to donate regularly- whole blood and platelets as needed. Because I've got AB- blood and a high platelet count, I tended to get the VIP treatment when I donated! But a few years back, Lifesource started objecting to my favorite vacation spots in Mexico and deferred me. Its been at least 2 years since I've been any place fun, so they might like me again! When I donated in college, the local Red Cross would call when they needed my blood type, pick me up at my dorm, feed me a sandwich and take me home when I was done. They didn't want to trust my blood with the volunteers at the school blood drives! One day they told me my blood was going to a preemie and that made me feel really good! Just resort/ tourist areas along the Pacific Coast of Mexico. For a long time, they'd ask the question, look at a map, verify I wasn't roughing in the jungle, mark "Cancun" on their form and proceed.
