wmw999 2,589 #1 May 22, 2008 The thread about the blind boy who's a good skateboarder made me think about a local hero here. Someone who, without being high profile, has made a difference. Edith Irby Jones. Many opportunities to give up, but she didn't. Many opportunities to grandstand, but she doesn't. And she's still working, still making a difference in ways that she knows she can. I'm not very goal-oriented; it's not something I do well. But this woman is pretty good evidence of how much someone who is goal-oriented and intelligent can do. I don't want to politicize stuff; this is Bonfire material. But who are some of your heroes, people you think it's worth trying to emulate in one way or another? Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. Lindsey 0 #3 May 23, 2008 Heroes. Mine, the ones I'm really in awe of, aren't the people I see myself emulating. The folks I really learn from, admire, and find qualities in that I want to see in myself are my friends. Wendy, you're one. I'm a hot-head, and you're so very reasonable. You make me want to slow down and think things through better than I do. My friend Robin. She has such strong convictions, and she'll fight tooth and nail for what she thinks is right. She makes me want to be more involved. Susan. She's a really hard worker, a lawyer, but she is a real free spirit. She'll drop everything for an unplanned road trip on a moment's notice because it's what she feels like doing. I'm kind of spontaneous, but this is a woman without angst. I like that. Lytle. lol. My orthopod guru. He works really, really hard then he turns tail and runs away fast. Disappears. Makes time for himself in there too. I'm trying hard to learn to do that. Bill. I'm not so good at hangin' in there with folks when they're making total jack-asses of themselves. I don't particularly like watching my friends do stupid stuff. I'm trying to learn to be more patient with people, like bill. :) This list could go on and on. There's at least one quality that I value highly, in most cases waaaay more than one, in every one of my friends. If I could make those qualities mine, I'd be the SHIT! :) Peace~ linz btw...great thread, wendy.-- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged.
