Anyone Had Mesotherapy or Prolotherapy/other Injection Therapies?

Recommended Posts

...um, how bad does it hurt? :$

I had steroid injections today into my keloid scars (ouch, but not bad). It hurt bad enough for me to audibly say, 'Ugh, ow, yikes, eesh' and grind my teeth a bit and squeeze the pillow. So not horrible, but y'know. -I guess what made it kinda yuck was that he used a pretty big needle because he had to cover all of the tissue and my scars are really big. Worst part was moving the needle under the skin -oy!! B|

I have some cervical/thoraic issues that are lingering from whiplash from a car accident. I'll be getting mesotherapy injections into my trapezius next week, then Prolotherapy injections into my neck at a later time (needs to be done in a fluroscopy suite due to neck ligament laxity). Doc needs to see exactly where he's injecting the stuff while he's doing it, hence the fluro-thingy room.

Pros and cons: hopefully, this God-awful chronic pain will at LEAST be lessened (yea!) and I'll avoid having my neck fused if it works. I know some people here have successfully had vertebrae fused, but I want to try this injection therapy first.

Cons: insurance most likely will not cover it. It will be $750 per treatment, and probably require 4 treatments, if I remember what doc said correctly.

Doc is an MD with a 22+ yr background in sports medicine injury and rehab. He has a lot of ND type thoughts and treatment ideas that I'm liking. A lot of diet modifications as opposed to straight meds, which I REALLY like. B|

Now then the injections...I'm kind of nervous. I know I should have asked the doc, but I was focused on the scar injections I was getting. :P

I overheard him talking to another patient in the waiting room about a topical numbing cream, a local anesthetic, and morphine (I don't think I'll need that). I'll be talking to him by the end of the week, but I was wondering if any of you have experience with it?

Thanky! :)

-For anyone that's interested in this, I had the mesotherapy injections done this morning.

It was both better & worse than I expected I guess...better as it was a tiny lil' needle, not some gigantic huge massive metal tube. It felt like tiny pokes...there were only a handful that I was biting my tongue during.

Then the not-so-great...somehow, I thought I would receive 8 shots. I guess I didn't understand...I received about 30. B| About 8 down each side of my neck from behind the ear to the base of the neck, then in a horizontal line across that area, then a vertical line down the center.

I've spent about average time on the ol' 'puter today. I had a LOT of emails and stuff to get ready for Derick's special olympics tomorrow. And the cool part: MY NECK ISN'T SORE! :o:o:o I'm always sore after this long! I guess it's working. :)
The only thing that concerns me is some of the injection sites are slightly red and raised...but I guess that's to be expected. What bothers me about that though is the way my skin forms keloid scars from any kind of damage...Gyawd I really don't need 30 more freaking keloid scars. B|

Anyhoo, I go in in 2 more weeks to do it again.

Just FYI if anyone ever was looking at this kind of treatment. :)

I havent had your specific type of injection therapy before, but I've had 12 injections of Hyaluronic Acid in my knees after an injury to regain some of the viscosity(sp?) so as not to have bone on bone rubbing together in my knees.

I went to a pain management therapist for this procedure. It took 1 injection every 3-4 weeks for it to work...and I should be going back to get more but, alas, no insurance since the divorce.

It wasnt a bad experience even though he did use a really long needle to get inside my knee with, but it was relatively small in gauge...probably an 18 to 20 or maybe smaller,I'm not sure.It did hurt a little even with the topical anestetic b/c he was filling my knee with this stuff and you could feel the fluid moving into the joint and such...it felt really squishy to me!:D:S

I know my mom had to have a fluroscopy procedure done on her lumbar area after her car wreck.I'll ask her about it and see if she has any input for ya.:)
