So...we're selectively deleting people's posts now?

You get more nasty pm's than I do.

I get the PM's since people assume I deleted their posts when you are the one doing it in the background and I get the blame :P:D

Whats funny is you are the only Mod in a few of the forums and I still get blamed!

That reminds me I need to send you a PM... unless you already have my mailing address...

There's nothing selective about it, it's purely random and at the whim of the forum mod. Like phree said, all the Mods conspire in the team room on which forums we will unleash a rash of delete on and then sit back and laugh. It's true, we are all evil and out to drive everyone off as quickly as possible because the one thing we loath is the sense of community and the sharing of knowledge. If there are less people on here that means we can spend more time doing other things with all the money we get paid for moderating the site. In fact, I am sitting here in France, on the beach at this very minute trying to drive more people off of the site so I can spend all my Moderation money on what I want and not deal with trying to keep order here.

In fact, I am thinking about deleting this thread since technically it is a gripe thread and I could probably chase a few more people of with the push of a button and have more time to enjoy my time in France. Keep your tin foil hats on everyone and you'll eventually see the truth.

Just so I'm clear - You griped in a gripe thread . . . after my humor was deleted yesterday?

Just sayin':D

It was deleted because we know you can do better. Try harder next time please.

if a post is deleted, all replies to that post go bye-bye, as well.

So... I ponder... What would be a sneaky way to ensure that your reply to a controversial post wouldn't get caught up in the cascade of deletions?

How about if you suspect that a controversial post might get deleted, that you cut-and-paste a quote from that controversial post, however make your reply from the original message #1 in the thread. That way, your reply isn't physically connected to the controversial post in the thread chain, so it won't be in danger of a cascade-deletion.

Sound good?

I DID - and it was damn funny . . well unless the mods are politically biased here . . . and ZIP - there she went - yet another post tossed into file cabinet 13.

Does it show anywhere who the mods of a forum are anymore? That was actually handy information when you wanted to report an inappropriate post and not give it more attention.

You mean at the bottom of each forum where it says: "Moderators for this for are.... " ?

You'd be good until/unless the first post gets deleted...

Or your post, which is quite likely if you're quoting a post that a moderator has deemed fit for deletion. ;)

Dave

Unless the OTHER info in your post is useful, then they may just edit out the offending info.

Depends on the mod, I think - I've seen pretty much all of them selectively edit before....maybe they just don't like you and Robbie... :P

Dave, close but then there is no chaos using your logic. We use a highly complicated (pseudo) random number generator to decide what reply numbers get deleted for each day. We take the number and just delete what ever post that is and everything after it just because its easier and more fun to do then actually reading and selectively removing a post and its replies. We've also been branching out lately and using the same random number generator to decide what user ID's we are going to focus on for additional moderation. This has been proving to have much more of the desired effect of having people get upset and leave the site and reducing our future work load. Once a user has not posted for 14 days we pick the next user that is going to be raked over the coals. I expecially like picking on peple that have only posted in the Intro forum, nothing like some good old fashioned hazing to make them feel welcome on the site and in to skydiving right? :)
I've got to get 3 more people to leave the site and then I qualify for a bonus prize. You should see the prize catalog we get to choose from for our bonuses. Sure the lower tiers the usual sticker set or even personalized ink pens but some of the upper levels are things like wind tunnel trips and new canopies! Its a sweet gig getting to support my self with the salary from here and getting some of the prizes! B|
