Charity - 100 jumps to fight Parkinson's Disease

Recommended Posts

http://www.perfectjumps.com/pages/default.aspx

A teammate of mine from last year is going to do a jumpathon (100 jumps) next June and is looking for sponsorship. His Dad has Parkinson's and they've both been active with the Parkinson's Foundations (both national and state).

I think it's a great effort.

Where is he going to be doing the jumps?

It'll be in Baldwin. All the arrangements and planning are made, but packers (paid) will be needed and some other roles.

My dad had Parkinson's Disease. It's very hard to watch someone you love slowly fall apart right in front of your eyes. [:/]

I don't know where Baldwin is. I'm guessing it's in MN? If so, I can't volunteer, but I can buy a t-shirt. I can't help my dad now, but maybe it'll help others. :)

After picking through the website, I have no idea on the T-shirt question. I'll send him a note. (Baldwin is in Wisconsin right east of the Minneapolis/StPaul)

Thanks

I sent the link to my boss. He just lost his father to Parkinson's (the funeral is tomorrow), so I knew he would want to donate. It is a wonderful effort. Good luck to him and thanks for posting! :)

Thank you Shari.

So I asked about it. My work here has a policy to only allow communication's on company sponsored events or via a local club.

But they didn't tell me how to get sponsored.

So I asked about THAT. They talked all about it for 5 minutes, then notes that this wouldn't meet the criteria.

Bit they didn't give me contact info about the 'club'.

So I asked about THAT. Finally got contact info.

It's amazing how dense people are. I explicitly said - What do I need to do to communicate this per policy.

Sometimes it's just better to ask for forgiveness afterwards instead of permission before. (Usually always)

Yes, it is. My grandmother's had Parkinson's for quite a while, and the last few years have been very difficult. It's depressing to me to know that my grandmother is helpless inside her own body. :( Her health problems are the MAIN reason that I stopped jumping...too much time away, when I could be helping family. I can always focus on skydiving later, but I might never be able to get those years back with loved ones in poor health.

Please keep us up-to-date with this event. It's a great cause, and I'd love to donate. I'd also help as a volunteer, if it was taking place any closer!

Using Rosa's post as opportunity to shamelessly bump this back up.

Here's the bump - www.perfectjumps.com check out the sponsors and the stories on the site

Thanks for donating. Hope the t-shirt is good for you. We do wish you had frequent flyer miles to come volunteer. We do have one person coming from Colorado just to volunteer.

the site is still working and has tons of promo work. We'll see Kevin doing interviews with local tv stations next week.

Many of you might even have read the article in Parachutist about the event.

All the planning for dry run on Wednesday looks good and with the event on June 4th in place.

volunteers have been great, Skydive Twin Cities, Performance Designs, Fastrax, and tons of local and not-so-local businesses have donated time, equipment, effort, cash - wow. My wife, Skimmer, even built custom freefly pants for the event with the 100 Perfect Jumps logo all over them.

Kevin even asked me to organize his final jump from altitude as attached for video and promo. simple, but should be a great finale to the long day. Many of these guys that were unable to volunteer for the whole event yet are still taking time off to come out for at least this jump. I'm grateful to be asked to do any small part of this effort. The team supporting this have put in a ton of work over the last few months.

It's very cool how people come together to support good causes and our friends.

only a dozen more days

Shameless bump.

We started at like 5 am getting ready yesterday - the first jump started about 6:15 as Kevin had a TV interview that held us off for 15. 22 jumps by 8 am, then we had low clouds for nearly 5 hours so only a jump or two to check it out avery 45 minutes or so.

Once it cleared, it was like a jump every 5 minutes.

The amount of support, and teamwork was amazing. PD was there and provided several types of support including a donation, and a moon walk for kids, and Nick came up to help. Larry Hill sent his US flag wind banners, and more. John Hart sent the actual rigs for us to use (absolutely critical, all the same and all configured for this type of thing), more and more and more,,,,

so we got jump 99 in around 8 pm, and we went up to do the 15 way - it started perfect, we had one glitch going to the target shot, and then K opened high and landed last. That made it 100, the rest of us only got in 2....

PD blog has some comments, and we had 4 or 5 news stations come by.

total success and we surpassed the goal of $45K for the US and Minnesota Parkinson's foundations (combined).

anyway - for those interested, it was a decent effort for a good cause and a lot of fun to help out on
