shropshire 0 #27 June 13, 2008 I see your point but don't 100% agree. I've been in the miltary, so have been on the receiving end more times than I can count but I'd never tackle a staff problem in that way,. Actually, I'd not even consider doing so by e-mail. These things are best sorted in a 1:1 face-2-face meeting. The OP may have timing issues (not a good idea for a musician) but the boss has issues too. (.)Y(.) livendive 8 #28 June 13, 2008 QuoteThat's disrespect by being late of course? I mentioned that being late was unprofessional, but I wouldn't consider 5 minutes particularly disrespectful, especially twice in the course of nearly a year. Then again, I was over an hour late to work today (granted, nobody was waiting for me). Also, being a few minutes late can be accidental. Cussing out an employee is intentional. Feel free to take as much shit as you like, but for 6 hours a week I'd walk, and try to leave a nice little shitstorm for the guy to clean up in my absence (assuming I didn't need a good reference from him). MichaelMoore 0 #30 June 13, 2008 Nobody likes receiving abrasive e-mails but it’s a part of life. While this Dean was using profanity in his e-mail, he wasn’t necessarily using profanity at you in a personal manor. It was just used to emphasize his point. Personally speaking, nothing pisses me off more than tardiness. It says a lot about you. It implies that you do not value your job and would rather be someplace else. That’s how many bosses see it. If the dean was using email as a means of communicating with his staff about something he considered "unprofessional", he should have done so in a professional manner. Profanity isn't required to emphasize a point. I think the dean was way out of line with his email. QuotePersonally speaking, nothing pisses me off more than tardiness. It says a lot about you. I agree that tardiness is unprofessional, however, sometimes there's a reason for being late. Addressing the issue the way the dean did show's event LESS professionalism than being 5 minutes late. It tells me that he doesn't value his employees so why should they value their job. Just my take on it.'Shell

If the school is as good as you say they'll replace you with someone who will be on time and you can go on to a job where the dean doesn't offend you.Kevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little

BIGUN 1,440 #34 June 13, 2008 Quote In the military we often address performance issues with individuals by telling them to "remove their heads from their 4 point of contact" aka "pull your head out of your ass" in hopes they tighten up their shot group before we are forced to call them into the office and put it down on paper. I sure don't remember receiving; nor later giving any military counseling like that. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard. Gato 0 #35 June 13, 2008 Thanks, everybody, for your views and opinions! I had a meeting with M****** about two hours ago, and THE EMAIL WAS NOT DIRECTED AT ME!!!! There are two other teachers he was very angry with last night, and it was targeted (not very well) at them. THEY are habitually late and leave their students waiting on a semi-consistent basis. He said he intended to send a follow-up email to clear up any misunderstanding, but he was too pissed-off, and forgot. I'm glad I didn't send the reply I wrote last night, and that I went and spoke to him face-to-face. He thanked me for coming in and talking to him about it on my day off. Yeah, baby, cool heads prevail. Oh, and he apologized profusely to me - I was the only teacher who responded at all, email or otherwise. Then he told me "No, we actually need more of you, Chris." I'm still going to continue to do my best to be on-time, as per usual. Thanks again for all your views, my peeps. Try not to be too hard on me for being late those two times. T.I.N.S. Please see my previous post on the resolution of this matter. Your response tells me you saw what I was saying as arrogant - my self-esteem is waaaayyyy too far in the shitter to be arrogant, sir. I am, however, quite confident in my abilities and in the my track record of turning out kick-ass guitar players. Thanks for your views, I appreciate it.T.I.N.S. But I live in a city that is BEGGING for staff everywhere ("Alberta Advantage" my ass!) so where there's an employee that isn't happy at one place because they're being treated poorly, there's another place that would kill to have them, and will treat them with respect.
