RALFFERS 0 #1 June 25, 2008 How in the HELL do I go about putting on weight??? I've been trying for forever and a day and nothing seems to help... Here's the thing...I eat anything everything in sight (although not too often in the day - 3 meals tops,) I work out, drink protein, etc, etc...and nothing, nada, zilch...ZERO. Interestingly enough, because I've been working out so much I'm obviously forming a build, yet according to the scale I haven't gained an ounce. And, no...I don't think the scale is broken (just trust me...) Here are the #'s: I'm 5'7 - BUT - because I can't completely straighten out my knees I'm guessing I'm actually 5'10-5'11. Same thing weight-wise; the scale says I'm 114 - again though - because my knees are not 100% straight and because I have to minutely hold onto something to stand I'm guessing I'm around 120. I don't feel good as is, and Ideally I'd like to put on 20-25 lbs. Any ideas? I think I'm just gonna adhere to a pizza, pasta, burger and chocolate diet; hopefully that'll help.Dialogue/commentary between Divot, Twardo & myself - "from your first Oshkosh when the three of us were riding to or from one of
DougH 270 #3 June 25, 2008 Good clean whole food, and lots of it. Chicken, lean beef, eggs, brown rice. I have a recipee some where for a really good weight gainer shake. It isn't as good as whole food, but it is 100X better than the stuff you buy in the store. Sleep, you need lots of sleep. Moderate exercise. 6x a week is NOT the formula to gain weight. Most people are hard gainers, less work gives more results."The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
RALFFERS 0 #4 June 25, 2008 If you find that recipe send it to me. About the working out - I need to work out often because I want to be able to jump ASAP. But, muscle weighs more than fat - so I still should be good, as long as I continue to form a build. But, muscle weighs more than fat - so I still should be good, as long as I continue to form a build. I don't think you understand what I am saying. Most individuals, most of the population, are what weight builder call hard gainers. You gain more muscle, and more mass, when you work out less not more. Three days a week of hard lifting is more than enough for most people. As you build your central nervous system up you can add more, but if you over do it you will not grow. The fact that you aren't see gains already supports this. You don't build "tone". The only thing you build is muscle mass. Tone comes from shedding your body fat. It is also almost impossible to gain muscle while at the same time loosing fat. Most body builders go on a bulk cycle where they build up muscle mass and body fat, then they cut where they lose the body fat while trying to lose as little muscle mass as possible at the same time."The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

cocheese 0 #12 June 26, 2008 Don't try to gain weight. Bad idea. Stay small, nimble and fast. Eat healthy and forget about weight gain. Fat is bad. Listen to the wise man. Keep working on strength and flexibilty.
Hausse 0 #13 June 26, 2008 Go to a professional nutritionist and let him make you a plan as he would for a bodybuilder just adjusted to your weight and tell him how much you want to gain. He'll make you eat somewhere around 4000cal. a day mostly from chicken, rice, noodles and beef. Don't eat junkfood! Work out just three times a week and just do benchpress, crosslifts and squats, 3 times 8 each. Start eating more often! At least 6 times a day, 8 would be better. Get up at night and drink a high calorie weight gainer shake or eat a bunch of peanut butter. Sleep at least 8h a day. No alcohol and no cigaretts. Have fun

Nightingale 0 #15 June 26, 2008 Go to law school and take the bar. About everyone I know gained around 30-50 pounds, mostly from stress-eating and sitting on your ass. Or, you could do it the right way and go see your doctor and a nutritionist.
downwardspiral 0 #16 June 26, 2008 This may be a bit personal but I'm curious. Feel free not to answer. Why can't you stand on on a scale without holding on to something? If its due to a disability or injury then you definitely need to see a doctor, nutritionist, AND trainer. To build muscle mass, while diet is important, so is the way in which you work out. Muscles need about 3 days to repair so body builders will do two specific muscle groups a day. Back and biceps one day. Chest and triceps the next. Then shoulders and legs. 4th day is rest. Then start over. Fastest way to build muscle mass is to use heavy weight (for you), low reps, making sure your last rep requires a spot. Using this method with a proper diet and supplements you should be able to put on 20-30 pounds of muscle in 12 months or less. However you need to have a trainer teach you how to do it and hopefully find a partner otherwise you can injure yourself severely.www.FourWheelerHB.com
