happythoughts 0 #1 July 10, 2008 news clicky QuoteWould you believe you're more likely to be bitten by a wiener dog than a pit bull? 06:57 PM EDT on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 WHAS11 coverage Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - A pit bull might be the poster dog for dangerous canines but would you believe that you’re more likely to be bitten by a wiener dog? A study published by The Journal of Applied Animal Behavior Science says dachshunds are the most aggressive breed followed by Chihuahuas and Jack Russell Terriers. Of course, I'm more likely to punt a weiner dog into a different zip code if it bites me too. QuoteThe study questioned six thousand dog owners, and found that one in five dachshunds have bitten or tried to bite strangers, with Chihuahuas also prone to snap. Chihuahuas also being puntable based on their small brown football-shaped bodies. QuoteBigger dogs like Rottweiler’s, Dobermans and pit bulls, are widely thought to be more hostile but researchers say although bites by larger breeds might require medical attention, those breeds aren’t biting as often as the smaller dogs. Larger, hence a difficulty in gaining truly good airtime. The nice thing is that you don't lose the appendage. A good Rottie will still be holding your arm when the EMT arrives. QuoteIf you’re wondering which breeds of dogs are the least aggressive, the study says they are Basset Hounds, Golden Retrievers, Labradors, Siberian Huskies and Greyhounds. Bassets were never good pursuit dogs anyway. Tripping over its own ears is kinda creating your own obstacles. I've noticed how relaxed Goldens are. If you lock your GR and your kids together in the trunk for an hour, then open the trunk and who is happy to see you? Always the GR. I rest my case. SpeedRacer 1 #5 July 10, 2008 Quote would you believe that you’re more likely to be bitten by a wiener dog? I don't like the sound of "bitten" and "wiener" in the same sentence. Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------
poe62 0 #6 July 10, 2008 Train yours to bite back and give the girl something to scream about... That's an interesting news story though. I'd still be really worried about a big less aggressive dog with more muscle ripping me to pieces than a little nip from a more aggressive dog. ~Nikki http://www.facebook.com/poe62 Irgity Dirgity
Shotgun 1 #7 July 10, 2008 The only dog I've ever been bitten by was a weiner dog, but it didn't do much damage. (Sorry Speedracer, I had to put those two words in a sentence again. ) But I came very close to being attacked by a pit bull one time, and that was one of the scariest experiences I've ever had. (Freakin' assholes that would let a dog like that run loose around the neighborhood.)

(Freakin' assholes that would let a dog like that run loose around the neighborhood.) When I moved into my neighborhood, one of my neighbors asked me if I had any dogs. I said, "not at this point". The guy said that there were a lot of kids in the neighborhood. If one of them gets bit, someone will shoot the dog. It may sound callous, but I think it is fair. People matter a lot more than any animals. You can't endanger people out of carelessness. The most mentally unstable dog that I ever met was a cocker spaniel. Nipped at everybody. They say that inbreeding is the problem.

Not singling you out, Bill....I've seen this type of response before. If one of my dogs (rottie and shepherd) got out of their fence and bit a kid severely, I'd definitely feel a need to destroy it.....because people ARE more important than animals. However, if my dog bit some kid's hand or leg because said child was hitting it, and somebody shot it for that reason....I'd have a major issue with that somebody. cocheese 0 #12 July 10, 2008 Note to all if bitten. Do NOT kill the dog. Pay to have it done or you will highly regret it as the government doesn't like us to cut out the middle man.
