BlindBrick 0 #1 July 16, 2008 Not quite sure how it happened, but after 15 years of higher ed, I screwed up and graduated. Now I've got to get a real job, and today got called to schedule some interviews. Much to my horror, I realized that in the real world an MBA is expected to interview in a suit, something I haven't owned since before I started college. I don't have a clue other than I need to not break the bank on this one suit and that as a large guy, pinstripes are probably my friend. Can anyone give me some advice? -Blind"If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it."

Head to Men's Wearhouse like someone suggested, or an S&K or the like. The sales people are reasonable. Tell them you aren't looking to break the bank but do need a respectable few suits. You may even get a few at deal prices. And Sean......please tell my that your jacket size isn't a 36 small.
bluepill 0 #8 July 16, 2008 As well as the suit, think about your co-ordination. The following are very important. The Tie must compliment the Shirt colour and pattern. The Belt MUST be the same colour as your shoes. You shoes must be the most expensive you can afford and ABSOLUTELY spotless. ohhh and welcome to CORPORATE [insert name of your country here] BP

Rookie120 0 #11 July 16, 2008 QuoteCan anyone give me some advice? Spend a little extra dough and buy a good quality suit. Hugo, Armani, somthing like that. Guys who wear suits daily can spot a cheapo from a mile away. Spend the money and get it sized for you. You will spend some cash just to get the damn thing fitted but it's worth it. Nice shirt to match the suit. I like Pucci Tyes. It might be a little loud for what your looking but I like them. Great quality and I get good comments from people about them. Good luck on the interview! If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!

tigra 0 #14 July 16, 2008 I feel your pain .............. For the past several years, I've been in a "business casual" environment that has progressively gotten more and more casual. If I had to start dressing "professionally" again, I don't think I'd like it! Not to mention, I went through a few weight changes and first gave away most of my "skinny" clothes, then my "fat clothes". I don't even have a decent suit for interviews anymore! In additon to Mens Warehouse (which I think specializes in big guys) try Simms or Filenes, even Marshalls or TJ Maxx. Some of those discount chains have tailors on site and you could get a good price on a higher quality suit if you are willing to look through a lot of crap first. Good luck and congrats on your degree!

Remster 30 #17 July 16, 2008 IMO... You want a suit that matches the environment you are in. Pinstripes can look a little too corporate in some places. Black suits look a little too austere in most places. In pinstripe is OK by you, then look into a simple, subtle stripe, maybe in a dark navy, or dark grey. Or a solid dark navy or grey. I do not beleive you need to pay 2K for a decent suit. I havent paid more the 1k for any of mine, and they look the part. My boss has a 2k Hugo Boss he braggs about, but it fits him like shit and he looks like a clown wearing it. Make sure the fabric is a nice wool, and fits nicely. Get it taylored. And dont get a double breast.Remster

warpedskydiver 0 #22 July 17, 2008 Brooks Brothers, nothing else will look or feel the same, and they last.Fully lined suits are crap, that is how they hide the crappy tailoring. Get a Brooks, they are 3/4 lined and fit like they should. You won't look like you are in a borrowed suit.
