popsjumper 2 #4 July 17, 2008 Windows Media Player 11 is for Windows Vista. Make sure you have the proper codecs installed and that they have not been corrupted. From MS WMP FAQs: Q. How do I find a codec? A. When trying to find the right codec for a particular file, you can use WMPlugins.com or other Web sites. Typically, you should start with WMPlugins.com first. Note that if you aren't able to find a codec on WMPlugins.com, it is possible that the codec you are looking for is not compatible with the Player, so you might not be able to use the Player for this particular file. We recommend that you use caution when installing codecs that aren't listed on WMPlugins.com or Microsoft.com, such as the DivXNetworks Nimo or Tsunami codec packs. Incompatibilities are known to exist with some of the components in these codec packs that can cause serious playback issues in the Player and other players, lead to system corruption, and make it difficult for Microsoft Support to diagnose and troubleshoot playback issues. For these reasons, we strongly discourage you from installing these codec packs, and recommend that you remove them if you have installed them and are having problems with the Player. We recommend that you only install codecs, filters, or plug-ins from trusted, authorized sources, such as the Web site of the official supplier. Even then, we recommend that you use caution, because many codec suppliers offer minimal customer support....My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. popsjumper 2 #6 July 17, 2008 I stumbled on this in the MWP customer support page... "If the music in your library skips or the audio breaks up when you play it in Windows Media Player, there might be a problem with the audio driver installed on your computer. Typically, this type of problem occurs only toward the end of songs (in the last 20 seconds or so). In some cases, you can work around the problem by disabling optional speaker effects that are collectively known as enhancements. If disabling speaker effects solves the problem, this usually means that there is an underlying issue with your audio driver. If an updated driver is available, we recommend that you install it so that you can reenable speaker audio enhancements."My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. GaryRay 0 #8 July 17, 2008 lol no mac and the file plays just fine, its just that the UI of WMP wont be there, i have to go into my task manager and go into the task manager to close it and try and re open. my codecs are good as far as i know.JewBag. www.jewbag.wordpress.com
marcandalysse 0 #9 July 17, 2008 I have WMP10 on XP. Also have WinDVD. They both play all types of mpeg, avi, and dvds. But I bought some used DVDs from Blockbuster and none play correctly on my laptop. I get the audio but not the video (visual portion). Since that is happening for both dvd players I wonder what is going on. Any guesses? Then it's probably the settings. When you put your pointer over the video does the UI show up? If so there is a setting (can't remember the name) that will make the full thing show. I think the setting is like mini or compact or something along those lines.
Tuna-Salad 0 #11 July 17, 2008 IF you get audio and no video then something is wrong with a codec. Just because previous dvd's have worked.. others may not. What is the format? Some dvd's are in a *.vob format and I think media player 2.1 plays those. Since I do not use vista or have any exp with it as far as media I do / did not know which version came with by default. Try media player 2 or magic dvd ripper and rip the file from the dvd onto your drive and see if it still does not work. most times they will be in 2 folders a video ts and audio ts see what format the audio ts is in. I'm probably barking up the wrong tree but any suggestion is a good one.Millions of my potential children died on your daughters' face last night.
