1969912 0 #1 July 19, 2008 Was talking about movies with some college students at work, and several had never heard of the film Stand by Me. It was made in 1986, so it's not too surprising that some had never heard of it considering they hadn't even been born yet. Found it a Blockbuster and am watching it again. Totally worth watching IMHO. Amazing coming-of-age/reminiscence/wonders-of-youth/happy-sad film. Agree/disagree? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stand_by_Me_(film) "Once we got to the point where twenty/something's needed a place on the corner that changed the oil in their cars we were doomed . . ." -NickDG
ladydyver 0 #2 July 19, 2008 loved that movie...loved the story and I am one of those people who is a repeat offender when it comes to watching movies...I will watch anything just about twice and some way more than that! Sad that River Phoenix has died...he was a really talented guy.DPH # 2 "I am not sure what you are suppose to do with that, but I don't think it is suppose to flop around like that." ~Skootz~ I have a strong regard for the rules.......doc! PLFKING 4 #3 July 19, 2008 The movie was good, the short story was better. I think Stand By Me, The Green Mile, Christine, and The Shawshank Redemption were the best movies adapted from King novels. The worst ? Hands down.....The Stand. I always thought The Long Walk would be a great movie. Don"When in doubt I whip it out, I got me a rock-and-roll band. It's a free-for-all." 1969912 0 #4 July 19, 2008 Was The Body a short story from a "collected works" type book or a standalone novel? Be interesting to read it. NWFlyer 2 #6 July 19, 2008 QuoteWas The Body a short story from a "collected works" type book or a standalone novel? Be interesting to read it. It's a collection called Different Seasons, which includes The Body, Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, Apt Pupil, and The Breathing Method. I think the last one is the only one of the four that wasn't made into a movie."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. The Green Mile was a great movie, but I haven't read the book; it was written after I stopped reading everything King wrote.Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials! Still feel the same - eternally pertinent, wonderful film that is well worth viewing. NickDG 23 #9 July 19, 2008 ~ In Stephen King style ~ The horror swept over him, slowly at first, like the hint of a coming illness, then faster and more telling the truth of it immobilized his legs, then churned his guts to jelly as he fell over backward never to rise again. Sprawled prone his wide unblinking eyes took in his last earthbound moment, the last straining synapse of a brain trying to cope, trying to make sense, trying to rationalize. But the crushing hideous fact that people born after 1986 are in college now is what did him in . . . NickD
JohnMitchell 16 #10 July 19, 2008 Wow! Talk about a coincidence! I just recently checked that movie out from the library so my teenagers could watch it. All of them really liked it too.
