Pea Gravel Gold

Recommended Posts

Background: It's called "pea gravel" because the small rocks are about the size of peas, with the sharp edges worn off by eons of tumbling around in the river. And that's why we skydivers like to use it for landing pits, because, piled together, it's soft and easy on you and your gear.

I have this theory about pea gravel... It has to do with finding gold nuggets mixed in with the pea gravel, and becoming wealthy overnight. My reasoning goes like this:

1) Where does pea gravel come from? It's dug up off of river bottoms where it collects in low-lying spots, free from the overlying current which would otherwise sweep it downstream.

2) Where does gold come from? It's dug up off of river bottoms where it collects in low-lying spots, free from the overlying current which would otherwise sweep it downstream.

3) Therefore, it is logical to presume that since pea gravel and gold nuggets come from the same places, that they could be mixed together. And if you spend enough time in the pea pit kicking the rocks around and looking for something shiny, sooner or later you might run across a gold nugget.

That's why you might see me poking around out there, head down, looking like I'm deep in thought. Actually, I'm looking for GOLD!

I think I see a shotgun pellet in there. :P

I was wondering if anyone would notice that. It's actually a yellow-colored BB pellet, that I threw in there to look like a gold nugget. You get a gold star for noticing that.

With sharp eyes like that, you might be good material yourself for poking around through the pea gravel at your own DZ.
