Incident from the Eitfel Tower

Recommended Posts

I have this footage on an old VHS tape. He did do a practice jump out of a hay loft from about 10 or 15 feet and landed in a pile of straw. Apparently he thought that was good enough.:S The hesitation when he is standing on the edge of the tower is priceless. I guess he should have gone with his gut feeling instead of impressing the croud. On this same tape is footage of a guy riding a motorcycle off a ramp on the edge of a 100 ft or so cliff with a parachute. Needless to say there was not enough time for deployment. He also hit power lines. This also was way back. Black and white footage with no sound.

I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.

I'd like to see that! I guess he didn't understand the concept of exponential accelleration up to T.Velocity. I kinda doubt his material was zero P either! I like how the hood would direct air forward, pushing his head backward even if the mess did work.

Yea, you can just see him screaming inside, 'No, you asshole, it won't work!!!' But the daredevils back then had less technology, less common sense, but way bigger balls than they have today.

I thought about posting this in the incidents forum, but thought it would piss off Bill.

You gotta love the fact that they were seen measuring the divot he left ..... B|

Yea, was there something scientifically gained? I noticed he didn't bounce, the suit must have done some good:P. I know he didn't have time to gain enough speed.

Didn't they do stuff with the divot at Coolidge in teh 70's / 80's?

By the looks of the stick they were measuring with the dvot appeared to be 6 to 8 inches deep. When seen on a bigger TV the guy appears to go in head first and you actually see him crumple in with one leg sticking up after all is said and done.

The tape is an old (well not that old ) film on parachutes in general. Not sure of the name and I'm at work. I will get the name when I get home and try and get back to you on it. The other option is to try a google search and find just that clip that way.

That makes sense, although he didn't have enough time to build speed, hence control of his direction, he did have a little time and that suit would, IMO, tend to rotate him backwards, as in head back, feet forward. Could be his launch, I dunno. First time I've seen that clip, is that the 1st known basejump?

Yea, get me that movie title if you get a chance, thx.

Somebody might want to show this to Jeb...

Ya know, Yeb might be a lot of things, but he's not an idiot.
Do I think he's going to land a wing-suit? No. But then again, I've never thought that was possible.
Do I think he knows more than enough to make a successful Eiffel Tower jump? Uh . . . yeah. In fact, I could swear he already has.

Why not cut the guy some slack? He's got a bigger set than you or I ever will have.

So are you saying he won't attempt it or that he will but he won't make it? When is he doing this stunt anyway?

I'm saying he's never going to even get as far as the financials to construct the ramp.

Then again, I'm not entirely certain he ever cared.

Ya, what's he needing? I saw his deal on NBC going over his dream, it was cool. You don't think he cared about getting financed and doing the stunt? Why?

Also, Cheryl Stearns thought the same thing, think she needed 6 or 7 mil, got it and chickened out. Theramp would be considerably less, but less care is probably given to what he is doing than what she wanted to do, more rich people intrested in outer atmosphere, her connection with the Golden Knights, etc., so she would have a greater chance of getting financed.
