normiss 900 #1 July 28, 2008 In case you've missed it, recent congressional hearings regarding Behavioral Targeting advertising as well as the sale of "click through" data - basically ISP's and web sites collect, store, and sell OUR on-line behavior...sites we visit, what we click on at those sites...etc....Congress seems to finally see some issues with privacy here. I'm wondering if dizziedotcom sells our click-through data.... Here's the worst offendening product that congress is having issues with: NebuAd
banesanura 1 #2 July 28, 2008 Every one's information is constantly being sold. Government laws and technology do little and nothing to stop it. dz.com and other information harvesting websites aren't necessarly the culprit- but their cleints that are advertising could be selling your info (which is generally the case) Dz.com has no control over what their clients do with the information. Unless Dz.com all of their clients to clients fully disclose their privacy information on the contract etc....etc... But then again- how do you monitor who is selling your info? Companies like www.nextmark.com buy and sell information. Alot of it isn't legitimate.... However anyone can get their hands on that info. I was able to obtain 52k email address/home address/first last name/sex/ etc.... and it only cost 4 thousand dollars. Solociting 52 thousand peoples infomation can profit well over 150k (by reselling though adverstiers or people in need of leads) .....that information depreciates over time.... Most people want current and up to date information... talk about an investment!!!Best Girl Scout Ever.
normiss 900 #3 July 30, 2008 Personally, I keep closer tabs on personal information than that. dizziedotcom doesn't have any of my personal information that would be of value other than an IP address. I also refuse and block the majority of cookies on web sites, so there's not so much to track.
