How many jumps have you done in the last 12 months?

Recommended Posts

Nobody needs to be making excuses for why they haven't jumped as much as someone else. We all lead different lives, with different activities and distractions, different income levels, different jobs, different family commitments, and so on. This isn't a stinkin' contest. We jump when we can, and we still love this sport, at whatever level we can afford and spare to participate. So, everyone please quit sounding like you have to apologize because you don't make 500 jumps a year. If you only make 50, for whatever reason, so what? Don't be ashamed of it, be darned proud of those 50!

Nice one John, that is possibly your best ever post:)
You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky)

How's yours doing?

I never asked for excuses or showed any condescension towards those who jump more or less than anyone else. These different threads were to get a feel for the new DZ.com community.

Also, I didn't ask a break down of those jumps. Someone who has done 50 RW jumps in the past year has done 50 more RW jumps then I have.

Hear Hear John

You know so far this summer I have made more jumps than I did even last summer. All I have to say is each one feels like an accomplishment because it is a struggle for me to be able to find the balance where I can still have my friends that matter as well as time to skydive

I would be curious (but not enough to start a new thread) to see the numbers broken down by those who get paid to skydive and those who pay for their jumps.
I often hear comments about those of us who make 50ish jumps a year that we don't take it seriously enough or don't love it enough.
Usually those comments are from people who work in the sport and get paid to jump. I'd be curious to see where their jump numbers are if the $$ came out of their own pocket.
I enjoy skydiving, but I have other interests, goals and a budget.
Be patient with the faults of others; they have to be patient with yours.

I've only done around 500-600 jumps in the last 12 months...

My goal for the next 12 months is to do 1000 jumps with a minimum of 600 dedicated swoop jumps for training.

AI CHIHUAHUA Dave !!

Quite an accomplishment & quite a goal.

The last five years, I've been plodding along at about 70 jumps a year. But I've still got a goal of making 100 in the coming year, and every year if I can. All I gotta do is make 4 jumps a day, twice a month, plus one extra jump every 3 months. Doesn't sound THAT hard to do, but it hasn't happened yet. But now I'm psyched to crack my first grand, just another hundred to go.

Hi Dave.

I didn't mean to imply that you were "bragging", or "making fun" of other people who jump less. I understood that's not what you were doing, and know that your personality wouldn't stoop to such a thing. I hope I didn't come across trying to make you sound like that.

I was just struck by how so many people sounded apologetic about how few jumps they make. And that's all my comments were directed at.
