ACMESkydiver 0 #1 August 4, 2008 August 1st was Friday, and though I wore my workout clothes all day, I never got that workout in. Woke up after minimal sleep, nobody to watch the boys, blah blah, then suddenly I'm loading up 6 kids and driving down to Long Beach, WA. Saturday I was SURE I was going to get an hour or two alone on the beach to workout. Well, we had 6 kids. So nyet. Sunday I DID get a workout in! I was chasing my baby down the boardwalk (well, under the boardwalk on the discovery trail pavement path). Derick rode a razor scooter, 4 kids on bikes, Joey napping in truck with grandpa and auntie, and I ran/walked with my mom after the kids about 1 1/2 miles total. -Not much, but it was enough. Mom can stride further and walk faster than I can, but I can run longer, so we both had to kind of compromise a bit. Today I'll get a good workout in when Joe gets home. I'm heading down to the gym to ditch the stress. How are all y'all doing? Sorry I didn't get a chance to keep up with last weeks posts this weekend -mom and dad have DIAL UP. Can you believe it?? It still exists!! How's beach boot camp, G?? Knee get better? CG letting you off MrFF? Hiking in CA and CO? ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. Scoop 0 #2 August 4, 2008 Well. I'm pleased with myself.... Just got in from a 3 miler: 30 mins 50 seconds. Not bad for a 223lb monster!
ladydyver 0 #3 August 4, 2008 Hey Acme! Today was my first day of physical therapy for post op of the knee surgery. PT was happy with extension and flexion as well as the swelling- you would be amazed at how atrophied my leg is already. Went to McGregor lake while at LP last week everyday and got in the water for 30 minutes doing leg lifts and cycling. Starting to actually walk on the leg now as well. Start pool therapy tomorrow. They will let me start cycling next week and should be off crutches and out of the splint in the next 4 weeks. Since I will be going back to the gym I will keep everyone up to date on progress DPH # 2 "I am not sure what you are suppose to do with that, but I don't think it is suppose to flop around like that." ~Skootz~ I have a strong regard for the rules.......doc! MrFreefall383 0 #4 August 4, 2008 Negative release from USCG duties. Search and rescue is not for people who enjoy sleep. In fact, if I planned on sleeping more than 5-6 hours every night, then there's no way in hell I would've joined the Coast Guard. Either way, workouts have been falling by the wayside. It bugs me too, because many times there could be a free hour in the day for me to do a run, but someone tells me, "No, you're not supposed to stay in shape, you're supposed to do your job." Aye aye, doing my job now. But when I get back from leave at the end of the week, I'm turning a new leaf. I'm going to be forceful, loud, even bordering on obnoxious. I told the CO I planned on running a triathlon next season, and I wanted to break the 10-minute mark on my 1.5 mile by October, and that's going to happen no matter what. If it means I've got to step on toes to get it done, so be it, I'm tired of sacrificing my health to be the station's bitch."If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche
mnealtx 0 #5 August 5, 2008 Actually gained a couple lbs - it better be due to building muscle, dangit!! Still doing the iso's, but not as much - I still can't tell if I'm using a consistent tension throughout. I've added incline pushups (up to about 200-250 in a 12 hour shift) and some bodyweight squats (fingertips to the floor, sets of 20-25, about 100-150 per 12 hour shift). I was doing some pullups on the cable rack, but one of the anchors came loose (oops ) Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. POPS 9708 , SCR 14706

Hey, better than I coulda done, so that's good dammit! My favorite quote from 'Animalympics', a f*cking COOL cartoon movie from the late '70's/early 80's: "[time]. Not too bad for a fatso..." I say that every day I drag my sorry ass in from a workout. ACMESkydiver 0 #7 August 5, 2008 Hooray! Glad to hear that you're on your road to recovery. I had one of those blessings in disguise, too! Doc put me on a med that will make me even more nauseous for at least 2 weeks. (where's the green pukey emoticon? ) Well I guess that will help with the appetite some... ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. Your health will always come second to your mission pumpkin; you know that! That's why you get the big bucks. Meh, Joe and I dealt with that in our own ways for 3 years (me; rotating shifts, extended shifts, being the ONLY woman in the unit so I got every BS assignment they could throw at me) -5 years, him being a Ranger and we didn't know when he was going to be anywhere for 5 years. You'll get through it. I had to get creative and do my weight training at 3 in the morning many times while on duty -dumbells weren't DISallowed in the station, and as long as there was 2' by 6' of floor space, there were push ups/crunches/lunges to do...Got into the best shape of my life doing that. It sucked, but I looked HOT. ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.
NWFlyer 2 #9 August 5, 2008 Ugh, yuck. I've been lazy as hell lately. My gym membership expired, and I've been stressed and lazy about eating in the days before LP, and then there was LP when all the exercise I got was walking in from the landing area and hauling my gear up the hill (which actually WAS a workout). But I have to drop my car off for some work tomorrow morning and either get them to drop me off or take the bus up to PT, and I think instead of taking the bus home from there I'll walk home (it's about 3 miles). That'll force me to get a little exercise, right? "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Tomorrow will be better for you! I didn't get my workout in yesterday. BUT TODAY...I have already finished my cardio. 10 minutes to warm up on the treadmill, then I started doing ball squats against the wall and felt that wasn't going to work, so I did another 25 minutes on the eliptical. I'll be going back to the gym tonight to hit a step 'n lift class as well (I have to be there anyhoo to take my daughter and nephew to wrestling, so might as well get in some more work! ), so I'm glad I didn't over-do the legs yet. ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. tigra 0 #16 August 6, 2008 Well, after not working out for a whole week (its been a while since I've done that......) I had another great lower body workout with my trainer. I just wish my upper body was close to where my legs and lower body are at right now in terms of strength and muscle tone. .........sigh........ ACMESkydiver 0 #17 August 6, 2008 Well it seems to me in my HIGHLY unprofessional opinion that the arms seem to take on the muscle quicker...so hopefully you'll see it just suddenly 'pop'. That's what happened to my biceps...yeah, I actually have biceps! Now if I could get the tri's to shape up that would make things much-o better. And TA-DA!!! Plateau broken. I am now at a total of 32.7 pounds lost, and a bunch of inches...still moving down... ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. tigra 0 #18 August 6, 2008 Awesome! Yeah for you! I am getting biceps and even triceps but there is still plenty of flab too. My young trainer says most of that goes with weight loss (same with the lower belly.......) and my diet just isn't the greatest right now! The poor kid- he tries so hard to get me to eat better and I talk about how if I burn so many extra calories in a workout, that's that much more I can eat! Over all, I am really happy with all the progress I've made so far. But I do need to lose more weight, and that's mostly going to have to happen through improving my diet. eeneR 3 #19 August 6, 2008 Diet is the hard part, though right now I am having issues with not eating enough. eeneR 3 #21 August 6, 2008 I dont know what the heck my problem is, I LOVE food. You would think that having access to eat more would rock. I am just having a hard time eating. Granted today I was a bad girl and had fried shrimp and potatoes for lunch, but like the last 5 nights by the time dinner time rolls around I have 0 appetite to eat ANYTHING. Even crap food. So tonight I will force feed myself some tuna and a small salad and maybe some steamed veggies or something. guppie01 0 #22 August 6, 2008 CONGRATS Jaye! I'm still at 15 lbs.... Goal is to lose at least another 15-20. Today was day 2 of Beach Boot Camp (5 more weeks of this), and I swear to God that I must have a death wish! Last night I was so sore I could barely walk - had to hit the pool for water therapy and loosen the muscles. Although once I warmed up this morning the muscles were a bit more cooperative. 2 mile run, 5 x 15 reps of push ups, bi-cep curls, squats, and ab work. (no knee swelling - YAY!) I'm running to the vitamin store today to get some L-glutamine to help with the muscle recovery and pain. Despite the pain, I'm really proud of myself and I'm glad I've finally gotten off my arse! g"Let's do something romantic this Saturday... how bout we bust out the restraints?"
