shropshire 0 #26 August 9, 2008 Why? Resources (not imagination or creativity - we have that in spades) but that kind of show would cost a fortune to put on over here. Then there's the infrastructure - look at the problems we had just rebuilding Wembly Stadium and multiply that by lots. It's going to be challenging and no mistake. Also, if just one Beefeater or jolly Cockney Pearly fucking king is in the mix then I'm emigrating and pretending to be French (.)Y(.) skittles_of_SDC 0 #27 August 9, 2008 has anyone else realized how hot a lot of these Olympic athletes are? Who would have ever guessed fencers could be hot? Womens volleyball starts today, too.
bigway 4 #28 August 9, 2008 the same Aussie who organized the last 4 openning ceremonies advised this one and it was his last one. It has been uncovered that at least half the audience were either military or police. Explains why George bush got such a massive cheer I would imagine. .Karnage Krew Gear Store . skittles_of_SDC 0 #29 August 9, 2008 another thing. whats with all these worthless events? i know you have to start young to be good at real events like swimming and tennis and all that stuff. but presumeably i could get into the olympics by taking up badminton or table tennis or kayaking. I have to imagine those aren't events that kids start playing at a young age.it would be cool to be in the 2016 olympics if Chicago wins the bid. kenz 0 #30 August 9, 2008 first of all that was absolutely AMAZING - that was one of the most spectacular shows i have ever seen - the drums, the moveable type, the tai chi, the final running of the torch - AWESOME i'm a total dork when it comes to the olympics - i'm super proud of our country, and i get really excited especially for countries that don't have many athletes - what an accomplishment to get that far i will never forget the summer olympics where there was one athlete from an african country (which one has slipped my mind) but he was the first from his nation and he entered as a swimmer... he had no formal training so they gave him his own heat to swim in - the crowd cheered so loudly for him that he thought he won a medal and they showed it right after playing his "heartbreaking story"- holy crap was i waterworks city - i was so excited for him i love hearing stories like that realistically speaking it's the only time our world will ever have "world peace" and it's nice to see, if only for 16 days good luck to all of the athletes and may the best men and women winoh and as far as badminton, table tennis and kayaking are concerned you would be surprised how much skill are actually needed for all of them - i suggest you watch some of them - even if they're only on at 3 in the morning :) "life does throw curveballs sometimes but it doesn't mean we shouldn't still swing for the homerun" ~ me
shropshire 0 #31 August 9, 2008 Are suggesting perchance that Table Tennis, Badminton and Kyaking are less than skillfull events? (.)Y(.) Chivalry is not dead; it only sleeps for want of work to do. - Jerome K Jerome

Badminton is one of asias biggest sports. Kayaking and rowings are major sports around the globe. If you are serious about kids not doing these sports ad them being worthless events I have to chalk that up to be one of re most iggnorant comments I have read on these forums. .Karnage Krew Gear Store . skittles_of_SDC 0 #33 August 9, 2008 ok im sorry. kids may play them but that doesn't change the fact they aren't real sports. to me badminton is nothing more than a 'sport' you play in gym class or outside at bbq's. call me ignorant all you want but that wont turn them into real sports. the IOC must have been on drugs when they made the decision to add some of these events. and im not refering to just those 3, there are a whole lot of ridiculous events. leave BMX in the X-Games please, it has no place in the olympics. Frenchy68 0 #35 August 9, 2008 Quoteto me badminton is nothing more than a 'sport' you play in gym class or outside at bbq's. The next couple of weeks is the right time to check this sport out. I used to think it was tennis' poor little brother. Shit, these guys (and girls) can PLAY. The speed of it is amazing... lauras 0 #36 August 9, 2008 Here's what I got out of the opening ceremony: China just put everyone on official notice. "We're big, really fucking big. We're an ancient society. We have all necessary natural resources. We have man power. We have money." China is a sleeping dragon and not to be taken lightly. Beautiful and a little bit scary. RastaRicanAir 0 #42 August 9, 2008 OK, I was unofficially boycotting due to the whole idea of watching the free world kiss the ass of a brutal, dissent-crushing, fascist regime and all that, but since bars have TV's I was forced to passively watch. What the F*CK was up with NBC cutting to commercial just as the Puerto Rican team walked out?!! Oh yeah, I got to see the Toyota Prius load of delegates from the BV Islands, but when it's time for the Boricua to get their love, I get to look at the new line of Chevy trucks!! Now I'm REALLY boycotting!
