BillyVance 35 #1 August 11, 2008 You have to watch the video all the way through. Pretty amazing stuff, and it's got its funny moments too. I laughed at the way it recovered from the playful kick by the guy, and the way it slipped and slid on the ice. Pretty neat piece of engineering, wouldn't you say? http://www.bostondynamics.com/content/sec.php?section=BigDog"Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
quade 4 #2 August 11, 2008 They may be funny to watch when kicked or slip on ice, but they seem to work considerably better than the Imperial Walkers. The engine is going to have to be worked on though. I'm nearly certain you'd be able to hear that from miles away.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

(first paragraph) I'm still not sure what purpose this pup is going to serve in the field other than being able to carry heavy loads. It also still needs a head... Being able to carry 400 pounds up the side of a hill in a forest is a big logistics win. Not everywhere has roads. Also, think unmanned sensor/gun platform. It finds a good vantage point, backs itself up against a tree - and you have coverage of an area without risking a soldier.

Slap on some armor to protect the mechanics/computer/engine along with the weaponry and you've got a smaller version of RoboCop on steroids. I think it'd help in a fight that's already started. Recon - no, unless they find a way to make it move silently, as you said."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban

Well, keep in mind that the engine only powers the hydraulic pumps, which can be just as easily powered by a battery. An obvious solution is a quieter engine and a backup battery so it can "creep" quietly with the engine off.

New... powerful... hooked into everything, trusted to run it all. They say it got smart, a new order of intelligence. Then it saw all people as a threat, not just the ones on the other side. Decided our fate in a microsecond: extermination.
