Were the Olympic fireworks faked?

Reports are coming out that they may have been CGI'd a bit..... If so, does it even matter?

What I read was that only the footprints leading to the "Birdsnest" during the televised event were filmed in advance. This was aparently done for safety reasons, as aircraft overhead during the actual event would have been in danger. I'm sure there was some sort of exclusion zone over the stadium itself but those "feet" started from a pretty far distance out. Makes sense to me.

I seem to recall the comentator from NBC (U.S.A.) empahtically pointing out that the footprints were CGI... which is fine as far as I'm concerned... it was symbolic and was part of the show.

and all in all I thought it was a really good show... I felt bad for the "chearleaders" that had to dance and look happy during the entire procession of countries.

I particularly liked the "drawing" that was generated during the ceremony.

I personally thought the "drummers" and the "Printing Press" were incredible. I rewatched it several times over, thanks to DVR.

I'm a bit surprised by this because, well, it's China and I would have thought that if there was anything China could do show off better than anyone (and would take huge pride in doing so) would be the whole fireworks thing.

Well maybe they were showing off.... They clearly have an excellent technical graps of CGI that was truely impressive.
It was a great mix of talents and does advertised their skills rather well.

well, yeah. As Icon said the commentators told everyone before the footprints even started that they were CGI.
