LA PORTE, TX (KTRK) -- The US Coast Guard is out on Galveston Bay looking for a parachutist.

The search area is located near Sylvan Beach in La Porte. The Coast Guard is looking for a parachutist who may have been caught in strong winds and blown out into the bay.

That's weird. The nearest DZ to that area is Skydive Spaceland, and they are waaaay too far away for someone to have ended up there. There is some once-in-a-while private jumping around the area, but I haven't heard of any happening on that side of town.

I'm anxious to hear more. So far nothing new.

Uh oh. Looking at Google maps

the LaPorte Municipal Airport is a stones throw from Sylvan Beach. However, I don't know of any jumping activity there.

Hmmm

Russell Webb has been doing tandems on to the beach in that part of Texas. I don't remember who he said has been flying, but he implied that they have done it a few times over the last year.

Based on comment below the article on the news site ... sounds like it was a powered parachute setup. I've seen them around the bay a few times when I've been out fishing, and lots of times down at the beach.
As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?

Just got off the phone with my contact at Channel 13. It appears this is a powered parachute and it has not yet been found.

Since this is not a Skydiving related incident I will be locking the thread. I am leaving it only since if someone starts to post about "I heard there was an incident in XXXX" this thread is here to explain it.
