TrophyHusband 0 #1 August 13, 2008 saturday i went out in the ocean and got pounded by the waves, but 4 of us caught 37 albacore. the end result was that my share was 81 pounds of tuna meat, 23 pounds of it in steak form. now my question is, what goes good with grilled tuna steak? i'm going to marinade it in teriyaki and serve it with steamed rice, but what other veggie should go with it? some sort of stir fry maybe? eeneR 3 #3 August 13, 2008 Everything goes with tuna steak! I soo love tuna steak. Another recommendation, grilled or baked top with Salsa. OHMIGOD it is heavenly! Only put it on the top side after flipping (on the grill). In fact I think that is what I am having for dinner! with a big salad and maybe some fresh corn on the cob. mmmmShe is not a "Dumb Blonde" - She is a "Light-Haired Detour Off The Information Superhighway." eeneR TF#72, FB#4130, Incauto

BikerBabe 0 #11 August 13, 2008 don't grill it ALL with teriyaki. (ruins it, imho!) just like good beef, good fresh tuna steak really needs NO sauce or marinade to make it taste amazing. It's amazing on its own. I like it grilled plain, then with some lemon or butter on the side to drizzle on it after the fact. simple, but best And any side dish goes fine. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
TrophyHusband 0 #12 August 13, 2008 the mango salsa sounds good. i just can't imagine emtpying a jar of pace over my tuna would taste all that good. i'm assuming you grill or sear the steak with just a little kosher salt on it? porpoishead 8 #15 August 13, 2008 albacores in general (especially caught rod & reel) arent very firm. wouldn't think they would hold up well on the grill. eeneR 3 #16 August 13, 2008 I also put a light coating of olive oil to keep it sticking to the grill. I felt the same way about the salsa till someone else had me try it. TrophyHusband 0 #17 August 13, 2008 we did cut one up on the boat and it was a huge mistake. tuna are very oily and it made the deck slicker than shit. the seas were heavy and we were sliding all over and before we could get it cleaned up, we got three fish on at once. we ended up boating them all, but three guys fighting fish and a fourth netting them while getting tossed all over the boat would have made a hilarious video. we didn't eat any of it raw though. i don't know if you can even do it that way or if you have to cool it first. the tuna's body temp is higher than the water. the fish is at about 80 degrees when we pull it into the boat. TrophyHusband 0 #18 August 13, 2008 i grilled some up on sunday and was expecting it to fall apart, but only one steak crumbled just a little bit, the rest were nice and firm, but i did make the steaks about 3 inceh thick. today i am going to cut them in half, so i'm expecting more crumbling. i did made the steaks out of only the firmest part of the top loins.
