Are the Olympics more "in your face" this year?

So I can't remember the last time that I even knew the Olympics were going on - probably that time when the one iceskater had the other iceskater beaten up. (Was that even the Olympics, or was it something else???) But this year, it seems to be all I'm hearing about. I even get lured into clicking on Yahoo's headlines and reading about the various events taking place, and I even remember one athlete's name (Michael Phelps).

Is it just me, or is there something different about these particular Olympic games? Is it because they're being held in Beijing that they're getting more attention?

I'm not complaining or anything. But it just occurred to me this morning that I seem to be paying a lot more attention to something I usually have no interest in.

The olympics are a little more fun as they added some new sports. but to be really in your face they should include skydiving, ultimate fighting, and guitar shredding contests.

But no, they're not really. I think that the coverage over here has been excellent. We have plenty of other Tellie channels to choose from if we don't want to watch sport.

OK, then maybe it is just me. Or maybe Yahoo (which is where I get a lot of my news) is just covering it more than they have in the past. And maybe after about 14 years of using Yahoo, they have finally brainwashed me into paying attention to whatever it is they want me to pay attention to.

Yahoo covered it last time, too. But the Yahoo home page is different now, too. There is more information and it is something people are interested in.

I don't think they are more "in your face." Nothing here has ever been more "in your face" than the Salt Lake Winter Olympics in Aught-Two.

Sailing? BMX bikes? dunno, maybe thats not so new. i don't watch the Olympics that much, I like cartoons, and the Discovery channel, thats it. Oh, and that show where the dude travels around the world just to eat all kinds of fried bugs. now there's a sport...What can I say, work is really slow these days.

Yes they are more in your face this year but only because it only occurs every 4 years. Every 2 years if you count Winter Olympics.
